UPDATE: the program doesn't realise that an effect if OFF even if the event editor is empty and e.g. at '49 the effect is switched on. No line in event ed starting at 0 the red line full at '49. But of double click STOP after playing, the event should be SWITCHED OFF. It's not. It still plays. So,'49 SWITCH ON has no effect as the damn effect is on at 0 witch should not be.
I realise this for months now. Orion does not record events properly in complex projects.
I just repeated the error while trying to record a simple FILTER OFF SWITCH while the song was playing. I put a Fab Filer Q-Pro Filter over the KICK to make it small in the beginning at the track. At step 9 I wanted to take it out and unhighlighted it while the track was playing and the record button was ON. But nothing happend. None of the events got recorded properly or better .... at all.
had to do a trick (draw a line so that the FILTER was switched ON) then record the TAKING OFF during play. That worked. But Orion "forgets" that the EVENT is ON if you record while playing the song. It doesnt Switch it on even that it was ON (after double click STOP / reset playlist to 0).
After stoping the track/recording and then setting the track back to 0 in the playlist (double click on STOP) the event was not visible in the event editor nor did my recorded event took place while playing the track.
PLAN WAS:
- Filter (Event is on (red)) until '9
- Then at '9 taken out
I'm pretty chilled with bugs but this is a no go!

Re: Bad Bug in 8.504 !I am presuming you mean automating the ON/OFF switches of Insert effects?
It's possible that recording the on/off events of the Mixer, instead of using the Song Events, actually records into Pattern event. So, if you record one state into a pattern, it reverts to that state every time a pattern plays, which would explain why your effect was on at 0, and possibly why you haven't found it later. So, just check the events in Piano Roll, all the way on the bottom are Mixer events. Might be one of those. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Re: Bad Bug in 8.504 !
Hi, yes automate the ON/OFF switches of insert effects. I always check the Piano Roll. I just tried this which should work. 1. Deleted all the effects in the Piano Roll window / event editor (ON/OFF switching) 2. Set effect to OFF (no red light) - Insert Effects Mixer switch 3. Started to play the track and pressed the REC button. 4. Switched effect on at '49 5. Stopped recording and set track back to 0 in the playlist -> no recording in the event editor and by double clicking the STOP button, the insert effect should SWITCH OFF. But it doesn't. It sayes red. Behaviour should be that it gets set to OFF and then while playing the track it gets switched ON at '49. I had to draw a tiny litte line at 0 (switch ON -> OFF) to make the program working so that the effect get's switched OFF after playing the track and double click STOP to set it to 0. It's now ON for a tiny moment then OFF at the beginning of the track. Now it works like that but I should not have to draw a line manually.
Re: Bad Bug in 8.504 !Do you mean that the switching automation worked the way you do it before 8.504?
There´s something in my mind, but I don´t get it! The only thing I remember is that when I was working on a song and wanted to hear it now from the beginning, I "saved" time by putting the play cursor to the start again. But nowadays I got into the habit to hold the rewind button for these little two or three seconds, so this way Orion "steps" through its events and normally the song starts as if you loaded it again... "I need more details."
Re: Bad Bug in 8.504 !
Ah, I get what you mean now. And here's what you need to get. Contrary to popular belief, events don't have 2 states - On and Off - they have 3: On, Off and No Change. Technically, a No Change isn't a real event, it's only a state of the event. Let me try to explain that better using your example. When you turn off an effect at the beginning of the son, the event doesn't get recorded, and it will remain in the state you've left it. Then you push Rec button and record an event change to On. But when you return to the beginning of the song, where the event was in a "No Change" state, it remains at the last state it was left in - On. So, yes, basically, you need to either push Rec at the beginning of the song, to record an Off state, or draw it in the event editor. It has always worked that way. Personally, I find the easiest way to draw on/off events, other than just recording it, is using the stepped events. Just drag it all the way to the bottom and you're done. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Re: Bad Bug in 8.504 !
You're joking. I'm using Orion since 2004 and I'm more than sure that recording an ON event would switch the event to OFF (start of track) if double click STOP. I can't believe what you're saying. I recorded events a million time and just got angry for a couple of months since I realised that REC does not work "properly". The event editor shows "nothing" (red line at the bottom) at the beginning of the song, then at '49 red block. I would assume that RED BLOCK and NO BLOCK is OFF at the beginning and ON later. The no state must be new! I never had problems recording events. And as for drawing events. Recording is so much more useful. You play the song, you feel the beat, you groove with your track and just right at the exact moment, your finger slams down the left mousebutton. Music is not mechanical. I would never get as good results drawing lines than using my fingers recording an event. I also use the mouse to modify knobs while playing. If I weren't that lazy, I would use my Behringer more often with it's nice knobs to twist an effect. But take it and connect it to the machine is too much
Re: Bad Bug in 8.504 !I think I even asked for a No Status feature. It was pretty annoying that recording effects had an impact on already recorded stuff after a certain position later in the track. Not sure anymore. But I remember that things were like messy before.
Re: Bad Bug in 8.504 !
What? How do you expect anything to happen if you don't have any events at the beginning of the song? It is the same behavior as if you've recorded an event and then stopped, but as the song plays there are no more events to read and it remains in the last state assigned to it. Going back to the beginning of the song, where there is no event (unless you record it), does the same. And as far as I know, that has always been the case. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Re: Bad Bug in 8.504 !
But that makes no sense. Imagine you record ON at whatever ... 65. Then stop and go back to the beginning. Your effect is now switched on already at the start of the track even that there is no event (no red block) in the event editor. That would mean that you always have to fiddle around with an effect at the beginning (draw a tiny ON/OFF) to be able to switch it on later and not having the need to always switch if OFF again if you play the song again.
Re: Bad Bug in 8.504 !
I know it doesn't, but there's really a simple solution for that. At the beginning of the song, place your switches as you want them, then hit Rec and Play, without fiddling with anything, and just for a short time. It should record the switches state at the very beginning. I just did a quick test on that, and it works here. Now, I'm not sure I'm doing exactly the way you do, but you might give it a try, just to see if that works. Doesn't hurt if it does, right? SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Re: Bad Bug in 8.504 !It has always worked like this. I wouldn't consider it a bug so much as unintended behaviour. If you play the song to the end it will always reset correctly, which is the only time when it is a real issue. It's only when you stop playback and go back to the start that it goes wrong. It is hardly a "bad bug".

Re: Bad Bug in 8.504 !All right, Hyp and bones, thanks for the infos. I'll try the REC from beginning thing.
Re: Bad Bug in 8.504 !I will check also, I was about to post similar issue.
I was thinking wtf happened to recording on/off with inserts. I will try again over weekend. cheers ---=u f o=--- /Radiation Mutant / Snee-Nee-Iq
