I have a Windows 8.1 machine with touch and Wacom stylus (Thinkpad S1 Yoga) and noticed that after the recent "8.1 Update" Windows Update package (the one that's like 800 mb), I could no longer manipulate certain VST's using the stylus (touch and mouse worked fine). The affected instruments were all 3rd party stuff, like LinPlug RM-IV and TAL Bassline.
I used system restore to roll back to a pre-update 8.1 image and now the stylus is working fine in Orion.
I tried some other stuff, like uninstalling Wacom's tablet driver and just using the one that comes with Windows, as well as changing the UI scaling for Orion.exe, but only getting rid of that big update fixed it. It happened in both Orion 7.6 and 8.5.
I doubt there's anyone else here using a tablet PC with stylus as their Orion workstation, but I thought I'd make a post just in case.
I really like using Orion on a tablet because it lets me relax on the couch with some headphones and make jams

Maybe something went wrong the first time, but I'm happy now. Especially since "8.1 Update" is apparently going to be required for updates going forward (unlike how Windows Service Packs used to work). Brian "balistic" Prince

Re: not really an Orion bug, but if you're using Win 8.1+styI hate using the stylus with my Surface Pro 2. It detects it when it is still about 2cm from the screen and starts doing stuff you don't want it to. OTOH, I just bought a 15" laptop with a touchscreen and the combination of touch and trackpad buttons is sensational. I thought putting touch on a laptop was a stupid waste of time but I'm a total convert.

Re: not really an Orion bug, but if you're using Win 8.1+styHuh, that's weird. Surface uses a Wacom stylus and it shouldn't register anything from the pen until it actually touches the screen. If it's clicking by itself, it may be that your stylus is shot. I've seen that happen with Wacom stylii in the past. The little piezoelectric bits get worn out and you get phantom clicks.
Otherwise it could be a problem with palm rejection. It's supposed to disable the touch layer when the stylus gets within radio range of the screen, to keep your palm from e.g. leaving marks while you're drawing with the pen, but if that isn't happening, then your hand might be triggering things. I usually disable the touch-screen driver in the device manager when I'm drawing or using Orion with the stylus, just to prevent accidental palm triggers. The downside is, of course, that you can't interact with your hands until you turn it back on. I tried the Pro at a store but the screen size was just too cramped for my primary needs (art). My TP Yoga is 12.5" which is more comfortable for that purpose. If there had been a bigger Surface I'd have been all over it. Totally agree that touch + a good track pad is great on bigger screens. Before I picked up the Yoga I tried a 15.6" Acer R7 convertible. It would've been a killer Orion machine (especially at the $800 I paid for it), but the N*Trig stylus had tons of jitter which made it a pain to draw with. Brian "balistic" Prince
