Xfer Records - Serum VSTi - Not showing up in Orion ??

Postby junebug » Sat Sep 20, 2014 11:33 pm

hello all -

i downloaded and installed the DEMO for Xfer Records new Serum VSTi synth -
Orion scans all my plug-ins at startup, but it doesnt recognize it or something because it's not there in my list of vst instruments...

i seem to recall having the same issue with Xfer's LFO Tool fx plug a while back...

any possible fixes for this?

I'm sure you've already added it to the vstcfg file ? :)

The demo was seen here without adding to the vstcfg file, but the plugin checker has a mind of its own  so try what Tek said generally works. Interesting instrument by the way.

i added to the cfg file - still did not show up in insert vst instruments.

i re-scanned from startup (took FOREVER - lol) and now it shows up in the insert vst instrument list -
BUT -
when i try to LOAD it, it loads ZAMPLER instead....

????
i tried removing zampler from the cfg list - it still loads ZAMPLER, not SERUM...

Huh ? Maybe their VST ID numbers are the same ? Try removing the Zampler .dll and see what happens...... :)

HUH? is right -

i deleted the zampler.dll
then it loaded my waldorf ppg wave - deleted that .dll
then it loaded my waldorf attack - deleted that dll
then it loaded my vengeance metrum sidechain FX -

i'm NOT deleting that or going any further....
:(
this is a serious let-down because i was thinking about getting into sound design for serum.....

ONE LAST IDEA - could i do a 2nd fresh install of ORION in another directory, and then tell the new installed version to only load serum and not my huge load of other vst's by specifiying that in the vst paths option?

would having 2 orion's installed in 2 different directories screw anything up?

~
sigh...

Sound's like your having a tough time junebug, the demo installed and played with no problems for me. Are you using the 32 or 64 bit versions, I only tried the 64 bit version. What happens if you load the opposite bit version in the appropriate Orion version to the one giving you hassle?

i'm using a 32 bit orion, so i installed the 32 bit version of serum...

would the 64 bit serum work in a 32 bit orion?

(i dont understand much about 32 vs 64 bit...)

No, Orion doesn't have a Bit Bridge so only a 32 bit plugin will work in Orion 32 bit.

I sometimes experice this on Sonar X2 where it will suddenly start pulling up the wrong plugins.......shutting it down and restarting always fixes the problem.

Seems like somehow Orion is getting confused by VST ID numbers....maybe a reboot would help ? Other than that I'm out of ideas at the moment.......... :?

copy the serum.dll and paste into a new folder, that might help, sometimes it works for me if orion isn't reading the plugin. you could also try renaming the plugin and adding the renamed version to the vst config file until it shows up

Not without using something like jbridge. I meant to try Serum 64 in Orion 64, to see if its just a problem with one version of serum or both ( as the 64bit worked here). You can install both Orion 64 and 32 on the same Pc without problems (unless you have a really old 32bit processor in you Pc). in the past I've put plugins into folders, out of folders and even changed the plugins names font case, Serum to serum or SERUM. Had to change TBplugins FIX to Fix to get it seen every time it was updated until the very newest version, "go figure" as they say

Loaded Orion 32, Serum did not show up in the instrument list. Changed its name to SERUM, plugin checker had a look at it resulting in an error message (changed case of a name ok before without issue), but still not listed. There must be a bug in the 32bit demo because the 64bit version works OK.

This synth looks really interesting! So I also tried to get the demo running in Orion - no luck so far. The first start of Orion after installing Serum, the plugin checker crashed. I tried a restart of Orion: No crash but it's not shown in the VST instruments list. After that I addded (consecutively) "Serum=1", "Xfer Serum=1" and "Xfer-Serum=1" to the vst config. All that did not help - this synth does not appear in Orion. :(

Ha! I got it working!

It is important that you add "Serum=1" to your vst config BEFORE starting Orion.

Now, when you load an instance of Serum you may get an error that it can not find its preset folder, so you have to select it. You can find this here "C:\Users\[YOURNAME]\Documents\Xfer\Serum Presets".

That worked for me. ;)

PS: It seems the pluckin checker of Orion ignores plugins next time upon load when there where problems before...

That doesn't help with Junebug's issue with Orion calling up the wrong plugins. :?
