I really like the way you can use the mousewheel in the playlist to:
a) scroll through various patterns by hovering over a pattern block and scrolling the mouse wheel (goes from A1 to A2 to A3, etc.)
b) scroll the playlist view up/down to reveal tracks lower in the playlist if you've got loads of tracks in the arrangement
However... the fact that both of these are supported can actually catch you out (and has done so to me on a number of occasions). Because... you hover your mouse over a blank area of the playlist and scroll the mousewheel to move up/down and reveal hidden tracks. But then as the playlist scrolls and your cursor now "hits" an area where there IS a pattern the playlist stops scrolling and instead the pattern starts changing to "A2, A3", etc. (i.e. behaviour b) turns into behaviour a) mid-scroll).
Then you realise what's happening and go "oops, now what pattern was that playing before I just scrolled it all the way through the patterns to E8"? And you can't remember... And then you wonder if you've done the same thing earlier and half your patterns are all over the place and you didn't notice...
Not sure what the answer is, because both behaviours are nice for workflow, but this anomoly is actually quite dangerous for messing up your arrangement, so I think a switch is needed somewhere to avoid this. Maybe an option to disable behaviour a) entirely (shame), or a way to lock tracks, or maybe some intelligence to notice that you started a mouse action in behaviour b) so if you bump into a pattern mid-way through the scroll then don't switch to behaviour a)

Re: Issue with vertical scrolling playlist via mousewheelIf you keep your mouse cursor in the block area where the instrument name/mute/solo/record buttons are when vertically scrolling you can avoid this issue. Not sure if you know about this one but if you place your mouse cursor in the Time Line area you can zoom in/out horizontally...........
Re: Issue with vertical scrolling playlist via mousewheelHi, yes that does avoid the problem, however you have to always remember to do it. And the tough thing is that I'm used to AVOIDING doing that because both Acid and Reaper suffered a similar problem in their track name area, where they have volume sliders per track, and the mouse wheel can be used to change the volume using these sliders. And if you scrolled with the mouse wheel but happened to have your mouse in the track name area you inadvertently changed all of the volumes for your delicately balanced mix!
Reaper therefore added an option to disable the mousewheel for just those volume sliders in the track bar, for exactly this reason (Acid never added such an option, so it's still a problem there). So the problem is, I've taught myself over the last few years to always avoid scrolling with the mouse wheel in the track list and doing so in the playlist. It means unlearning that habit and doing the exact opposite...
Re: Issue with vertical scrolling playlist via mousewheelOk then what do you suggest as a solution that won't make you learn a new habit without breaking the habits/workflow of others?
Re: Issue with vertical scrolling playlist via mousewheelFair point.
I gave my suggestion in the initial post: "Not sure what the answer is, because both behaviours are nice for workflow, but this anomoly is actually quite dangerous for messing up your arrangement, so I think a switch is needed somewhere to avoid this. Re: Issue with vertical scrolling playlist via mousewheelOr just simply learn to scroll in the instrument block area on the left or in the scroll bar on the right just as you learn to place the cursor in the Time Line area for Zoom in/out.
This seems like a possible solution: . However we don't know if it's possible or practical from a coding standpoint. Only Rich or Marcin could answer that point.
Re: Issue with vertical scrolling playlist via mousewheelFrom what I'm seeing here, it doesn't change the patterns always; it happened a few times I tried it, but mostly it didn't. The trick is when it gets to the bottom/top and it lands on the pattern block. It changes immediately to pattern-switching mode.
