I know this bug is an Image-Line issue because I'm experiencing similar problems in another DAW but I can't really get anywhere with asking the question, probably because I don't own an IL product yet and can't post anything at the forums. Also I could be wrong because this is the second plugin of this type (physical modeling 'Pluck') that's cause sever or weird problems, in the past week or so since I've been trying them out. BTW Sakura's Fruity native works fine within FL's latest demo version so I'm perplexed.
below is the post I prepared for IL's forum on my studio machine before discovering I couldn't actually post. lol
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
When using Sakura (Demo) v1.0.6 VSTi I've been experiencing
EXTREME CPU spikes and overload crashes.
For the first few times this only happened when the hosts sequencer
playback was stopped. After hitting the stop button, during the last
notes fadeout, the CPU usage starts to climb jumping about 10 to 15%
until it finally reaches somewhere between 135% to 165% culminating
in loud noise vomits until the engine ultimately dies- the final
number differs from when the sound finally decides it's time
to take a dive. Under this situation I was able to get the engine and
audio drivers restarted limiting sound only to when the sequencer is
active.
Playing with the situation I tried many variables such as different
presets and adding more instruments (Orion's DrumRack, and IL Autogun)
and all resulted in different variations of the same.
The only differences was when attempting to synthesis from
an initialized (the 'no name' default) state the crash didn't even
need the sequencer to be active and this could only be remedied
by completely restarting Orion.
Other oddities SOMETIMES not all the time, if letting the system just
sit doing nothing the CPU idles at 50% until I play a note and then it
drops OR raises deepening on the complexity of what is being played. I
know that this type of synth can be CPU taxing but I'm not getting any
logical reason for why it would just BE at 50% but drop when I command it
to do something more than take up space.
Below are my machines spec's. I've listed the two audio drivers
because the problem was consistent with both of them.
Sorry I cannot provide anymore than this. I tried for screen caps
cut couldn't find a decent utility to do it. Suggestions on that too
would be cool if you have any.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks in advance, and I apologize if this is the wrong place for the message, but like I said I can't get anything out of IL about it, so I'm not looking for a solution, mainly expressing to other Orion users that this happens.
Perhaps I have something set up wrong and someone here could show me that, hence the specs below.

try posting at kvr, gol and his gang often post there so they will prob see it Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Re: Harsh CPU spikes with Orion running Sakura VSTJust tested the Demo version, went through the patches, played some notes. I haven't seen it once go over 25%, and that was either hitting several notes at once, or was with patches that has long tails like reverberation.

Re: Harsh CPU spikes with Orion running Sakura VST
I don't get it then... maybe I have some settings somewhere that need to be changed, but yours isn't the first AMD Athlon 2X 2.5 that's out performed this CPU, hell the one in this online machine is a AMD Sempron 3200+ 1.79 and there are times when I'm doing stuff not related to audio that I feel like this one holds up better than that Pentium. I've always felt AMD was a better processor this is messed up. I'm gonna try a bunch of settings combinations any suggestions would be good because I already thought my OS was optimized to its nuts. Could it possibly be the USB interface? I've been getting some audio quality issues recently too with some plugins sounding crackely and what not, but I don't know why it would only isolate to that type of plug in. I'm gonna play with Orion's pluck string and see if I get similar results. Thanks for the help though.
Re: Harsh CPU spikes with Orion running Sakura VSTNot a problem, man, that's why I'm here for
I don't think USB interface would cause CPU spikes, at least it shouldn't. However, if you are suspecting it, you can try to change settings related to latency just to see if that has any effect. Or even test it using an integrated audio (if you have it), using ASIO4All or some equivalent. Also check your play rate in Audio Output settings, as well as PPQ (Options -> Timebase). High number of those can get more out of your CPU. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Re: Harsh CPU spikes with Orion running Sakura VSTYeah, that what I was thinking just now. I also use Reaper and it's been giving me fits off and on unable to start the Omega and rolling over to ASIO4ALL. My integrated sound card is one of those nifty situations where Microsoft wrote it's drive out of support forcing you to have to use a microsoft driver and when you try it tells you that they don't have a drive compatible but the original driver isn't compatible anymore either. I was able to get it to install an alternate version once, but I've reinstalled windows since then... Do you know if there is a SP-3 update that could cause the problem? I haven't let my audio machine online since reinstall so it's just a raw SP-3.
Well I'm off to find my 1/8 extension cord then...
Re: Harsh CPU spikes with Orion running Sakura VSTOk, I think we're on a good start. The drivers that come with Windows usually won't do, the only thing they do work for are network cards, some other things as well, but that's past this point. SP3 isn't the cause, that I'm pretty sure of. You need drivers from the manufacturer, so it would be helpful to know two things:
1. What integrated sound do you have (or a motherboard model) so we can look for drivers for you 2. If you're on XP 32-bit or 64-bit. Once you get the drivers, ASIO4All should work just fine. Although, I'm gonna point that it really would be preferable to still work with your USB soundcard, meaning to get it work fine. In your case, since you already have an audio interface, ASIO4All should be for testing only, just to see if you have these spikes with it or not. As for Lexicon, latest drivers - good. I'd see if upping the buffer size from 512 to something a little higher might change anything. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Re: Harsh CPU spikes with Orion running Sakura VSTWell, I started digging through my cables looking for an extender so I could use my headphone monitors with the internal sound card, and remembered how to get the damn drivers installed. It's messed up but I had to use the official intel suppiled update and when it failed, I had a .cab file I got from the IDT official site and I needed to extract and replace all the files the in it into a folder inside the original install extraction! lol The funny thing is that I remember getting the .cab file from a version that microsoft update finally broke down and directed me to - the only thing was that it was temporary and every time I rebooted it had to be installed until the day I just grabbed the .cab out of the temp folder and experimented with it for a day or so trying to make it permanent... then stuck it in the archive folder with my intel update files. Usually my genius ass fails to remember things like 'archive that rare file that microsoft has it in for!' lol So anyway, integrated sound card by IDT using driver version 4.1.100.1332 is installed!
I don't know the a motherboards specs off hand. The last time I got that info was at intel through a scan I'm sure I saved the document some where but that's the question. However, I think I'm done with the problem at this point, I just need to know one thing. Was the machine you used for your test online at all? Mine is grounded from the internet until it gets its grades up, but since it's classes are online... lol Anyway here are the first three screen caps I managed to get. Re: Harsh CPU spikes with Orion running Sakura VSTat this point I've actually tried a lot of different settings beyond the ones I'm posting - adjusting buffers up and down clearing up under runs and glitches and latencies...you know the drill. And it was about at this point it started to become a little clearer as to what the issue was.... Notice the presets are almost always different. Well all I did was click the right arrow on the preset window. It was taking me to a different on each time I restarted Orion, loaded sakura and clicked right.
Just before the Omega crashed after all those before it... download/file.php?mode=view&id=84 These are the settings, for the DirecstSound spiking. This time it just hung there until I played a few notes and it dropped the climbed again. download/file.php?mode=view&id=83 IDT As DirectSound Driver download/file.php?mode=view&id=82 Please don't use so wide images as attachments! Cut images to smaller, especially if you want to show just a very small area with them, like the CPU usage number, and then may insert them with [img] tag or simply place images as links. - Lance
Re: Harsh CPU spikes with Orion running Sakura VSTAnyway, as far as Orion settings, I tried single core engine, Double Precision on/off, with and without multiout enabled, and the more i watched the preset thing I remembered more about the presets and when you try to change them in any way besides the arrow button you are taken to the IL Downloader. It and a couple other Claster synths I think Drumaxx as well are online dependent in regards to its presets, but I don't think they've caused anything like this at all.
This is really the only thing I can think that would explain why it's happening on my machine and not yours. If you weren't online, the fuck it, I don't want the damn thing this bad! lol I played with plucked string in Orion and the worst I got was about 15% and it was producing a sufficient sound. I figure get creative with FX holders and inserts maybe even use the version of the CM DVD and stack it in Reaper and rewire in. I'm a genius, I'll manage without sakura I'm sure. lol (so says the fox to the grapes) To show what happens in Reaper, just sort of sitting there. At first it was fine, but after about a minuet and changing presets a bit, it climbed and hung... download/file.php?mode=view&id=86 Omega Settings download/file.php?mode=view&id=85
