Hi,
I have the following question:
According to many reports, the MIDI timing of Windows XP seems to be not very good, but with Windows 7 or 8, it seems to be getting really bad. And if you add USB MIDI hardware the setup will be worse regarding timing. So I came to the conclusion that the audio and MIDI architecture of XP is much better suitable for music production than the architecture of 7/8. When you browse the web you still find musicians which try to keep their XP hardware.
But if you look at the contemporary products of big companies like NI, they strictly support only Win 7/8. On the bundled CD of my new MIDI keyboard, there was a very reduced version of NI Komplete SE. It installed flawlessly from CD and works fine with Orion under XP. But when I tried to install updates, the installer progs terminated with a message saying that I don't use Win 7...
So I wonder why especially big audio companies are such strict Win 7 supporters. At first glance, XP seems the better audio producing OS to me compared to Win 7. Smaller companies like Synapse show that it is still possible to write excellent software which is compatible to both Win XP and 7. Also most of the bigger companies have shown in the past that they are capable to do this. So why are they not supporting XP anymore? Are there technical reasons like special audio APIs in 7 and 8 which are not supported by XP? Or did they get money from MS?

Re: Windows versions <> Audio-MIDI Latency <> Software suppoXP is no longer supported by its creator, Microsoft, so its quite reasonable to expect devs to drop XP support for their products.
For most companies, Win7 is the min requirement. Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM
