I have been a bit quietly lately and have been spending the time looking at new DAW's.
After some in-depth reviewing I have decided to move from Orion onto a new DAW.
Orion has been a big part of my music production life, and I am sure it has contributed to the level I am able to produce at now.
Lost track of how many years I have been using Orion, ever since I bought that big boxed version (Version 3 I think) and definitely feel sad moving away.
I hope there are plenty VST's in the pipeline from Synapse Audio, and I will probably still check the forums for a while.
Thanks to everyone who has reviewed my tunes, it really was useful!
Anyway, the last of my Orion work was released today on AILA Records:

Re: A fond farewellSad to read this.
I think Richard has something to say about Orion to us. Keith Murray, Da Muzicianz, Ying Yang Twins, Big Omeezy Beat Maker.
Re: A fond farewellI will try to never give up.
I hope to earn a lot of money to buy Synapse. That will be my first buy If I become millionaire. "Pleeease, bring back ORION!"
Re: A fond farewellA massive shame. Will miss your stuff...no idea how you did so much for so long. Good luck with everything. Dont be a stranger

Re: A fond farewellCan understand your decision but it's a pity however...
For me: As long as my latest Orion version runs on my machine I'll stick to it. I do not need the features that where requested by some or many users. It works for me like I want it to and I do not want to give up this nice easy workflow. I hope to hear something from you here again and whish you the best, nicest productions. Re: A fond farewellHi Steven,
it is understandable that you are moving to new tools, it's hard when our favourite software is in the path to becoming vaporware. A couple of points though... I still use orion for the fantastic randomise function and then spit my VST preset as a config, and import it to my new DAW (after a few tweaks in Orion). I also quite often do three to four hours building in Orion to mudmap my sounds and basic patterns and then spit them to my new DAW. As well I have rebuilt a number of tracks which I made in Orion in my new DAW. Whilst exporting the VST presets and the MIDI files for each pattern (and then rebuilding) is time consuming, it is rewarding to 'play' old stuff in my new DAW. See here for a post I made almost a year ago: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10642 I know that these techniques are a work around, and don't help if you have used the fantastic generators built into Orion, but at least they allow for transition of some material from Orion to your new DAW. A few comments on Orion's demise: I have invested a lot of time in understanding combinations of filters to find 'my' sound in Orion, whilst it has been a relief to use the 'same' effects in Dune2, it would be great if Richard could release a VST Effect featuring the effects in Dune2. It would also be nice if a "FINAL' update to Orion were released with easier ways of exporting material to a new DAW. regards FTR ________________________________

Re: A fond farewellI think a clean start for me is one reason I moved across to a new DAW.
Bitwig works in a different manner, and I hope it will be reflected in my music. I reviewed Bitwig, Cubase & Abelton, and they are all pretty awesome, but ironically, Orion's pattern based system (albeit with some limitations on the Arranger) is still something that stands out from this crowd.
