Does anyone have any good/bad experiences with any particular controller?
I currently use an Axiom (m-audio) 61 when I actual play both handed keys and an Axiom 25 for playing leads and such when I have a bass or whatever in my other hand. Its just sometimes my patches just go away or change, and I have tested and checked everything (down to puting a multimeter on my usb voltage which was fine and using external power).
Because the Axioms just feel good and have the best 'faked' piano action I have ever felt I have simply used Orion in an odd way http://forum.synapse-audio.com/view ... hp?id=5992 instead of going back to my old unweighted Yamaha CBX's which have never messed up in the 10 or so years I have used them.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a MIDI controller taking into account what I have stated above?
Thanks!

good, ueber reliable MIDI controllersI had an Axiom in theory, but it was stolen (along with an E-MU dock interface and a boxed software). But I've got the money back from the postal service.
I'm looking for a good controller myself too, this would be best for me (especially in key action, and build quality): http://www.studiologic.net/VMK-176plus.html Alas I have to save up for it, though it is less cheaper (in the EU) than its MSRP. It has a 88 and 61 key versions too. Other alternatives; Novation controllers and maybe CME second series (UF50-80, or VX series). Most of the cheaper keyboard controllers are crap. An M-Audio Keystation 88 Pro is also a contender for me, not that it is anywhere near to a Fatar in hammer action, but it is much-much cheaper and has much more knobs and sliders. good, ueber reliable MIDI controllersSorry to hear about the loss, that sucks. Just curious which EMU dock got stolen? I use a 1212M with outboard AD and it works great.
Since you are like me and concerned with the action of a controller.... I have to say I still use the dang Axioms because they play good despite their problems. Don't even ask about Enigma The Axioms are like a Stratocaster, They play like butter but are as unreliable as crappy Chinese SKS's (AK-47 and no offense to the Chinese) btw- I would welcome any controller that comes larger than 61 and/or smaller ones (one handed) and I am checking out the ones you mentioned... good, ueber reliable MIDI controllersIt was an E-MU AudioDock, compatible to an 1212M v1, which I have. Unfortunately the new MicroDock isn't compatible with the first series of the 1212M only the newer non-firewire one. But an AudioDock is a very hard to find discontinued item. I haven't got a chance to find another one since then.
good, ueber reliable MIDI controllersLance,
Have you ever played on any of those Fatar's? Because that VMK-176 looks really cool. It has 10 more presets than my Axioms and it starts on an E. I love 88's but I never go below that low E because I am mainly a bass/guitar player and the space saving would actually make a big difference... I'll have to check the price in the states. I have seen them cheap as hell here in the states at Fry's (A crappy, nerd store like RadioShack on juice) Orion 7.62, EMU 1212M, 0404USB, KRK VXT6's, JBL sub

good, ueber reliable MIDI controllersI haven't touch a Fatar/ Studiologic yet. I have to travel a lot to try out one, I live far from the capital (Budapest), and musicstores in Hungary don't have big product diversity, neither good prices. I'd buy the keyboard from Germany, or the Keystation 88 Pro from the UK.
Fatar is a traditional keys manufacturer, it supplies many other keyboard- and synthmakers with key mechanisms. Their hammer mechanism and build quality considered top-notch everywhere. I see ten times better reviews and opinions for Fatar than any other competitor. They must be good I guess, when even picky pianist recommend their keyboard controllers. Regarding the AudioDock, it would be great if someone could help me to get a Dock from those stores as they don't ship to Europe, and the old Dock isn't available in any online store neither on eBay. Are you sure it is the old dock ( http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop/flyp ... ct_id/7704 ), not the new MicroDock? I see only that and the AudioDock Rackshelf in stores, but I'm not interested in that thing. Last edited by Lance on Tue Jan 13, 2009 3:37 pm, edited 1 time in total.
good, ueber reliable MIDI controllersThe last time at looked at their (Frys) EMU stuff I saw not only that exact dock but also 'old school' firewire 1212M's as well. Fry's online site is shite and doesn't actual show stock at each store. These stores keep crap forever until it gets sold.
I am going there later this week to pick up some computer stuff and I will take note of all the EMU gear they have and report back. I am always willing to help a fellow musician, esp one from the EU because I have been there several times and the gear selection is shite along with the price and the conversion of the weak dollar I'll get the price on the newer 1212M and such as well in case that would be another upgrade/crossgrade, maybe cheaper route. And I am sure we could work something out if Fry's indeed has what you need btw- Where do you live in Hungary? Last edited by dickdawkins on Tue Jan 13, 2009 3:58 pm, edited 1 time in total.

good, ueber reliable MIDI controllersThanks for your kindness and help!
I live on the Alföld, 'the prairie' of Hungary, a couple of hundred meters near to a little town, Csongrád. The name of the town has a slavish origin, and would mean Black Town or Black Castle in English as it had a castle build from black ground in the middle ages. Hungary was a kingdom since more than a thousand years, though nowadays it is a republic. Yes, prices not that good in the EU, and in my country it is even worse. I know every one is sick of where they live but your town sounds facinating. I have only been to the larger 'tourister' cities like London, Amsterdam, and Madrid and have always hungered to see the real EU I will shoot you an email in a few hours and if your email isnt on the forum just send me a form email and I'll respond in a few hours offline. good, ueber reliable MIDI controllersUnfortunately the ruins of the castle faded away long since, but the town and its countryside is quite nice, also a tourists' objective because it lains at the meeting of two river, the Körös river runs into the Tisza here.
good, ueber reliable MIDI controllersI`ve got an Axiom 49 and it has never given me any trouble.
Maybe because it`s a new one, maybe because my drivers are new. But It`s never done anything wrong.
good, ueber reliable MIDI controllersMy 61 is a little older than my 25 and I use the latest drivers. The drivers though don't have anything to do with the problem I have.
I basically lose or have altered settings on the keyboard internally. I can plug either one into my DR-202 seperate from the computer and this still happens. I thought it had to be some kind of power issue and I have metered all voltage points in the USB and external power and all were well in spec. Maybe I have two lemons but hell, I still use them Orion 7.62, EMU 1212M, 0404USB, KRK VXT6's, JBL sub

i had an m-audio oxygen8 that did random program changes on it's own too. it was fucked up. i switched to a novation remote sl61, and haven't looked back. it's like 5x better than the old o8 (and you pay for it too). it's the best midi controller i've ever owned. love the key action, love everything about it. only problem i've had with it was the pitchbender broke off (the top rubber part) but i use it just fine without that still... i kind of regret not getting a board that had 2 separate wheels instead of the roland joystick type of modwheel/pitchbend built into one thing, but it's very expressive to play it and easy too. HIGHLY recommend the novation line, especially the remote sl 61
good, ueber reliable MIDI controllersI've been using M-Audio controllers for years (Trigger Finger, Ozonic, UC33e (sold), Xponent and others - all are still functioning like new.
