Orion + Albino 3 Scales?

Postby Icaro » Sat Jan 31, 2009 11:40 am

I noticed on the back of Albino that theres a place to adjust the tonal scale. I'm assuming I can load the same scales that can be used to tune a song in Orion. Has anyone used this in Albino, while using Orion?

never mind, Albino loads 'TUN' files. Looks like Orion's is .scl

so, I guess they are unrelated.

Not unrelated, only different file formats, but the purpose of them is the same, and you can find the same tuning for both format.

If i am corect. If you tune a file from orion all generator take different pitch setting for their midi in so you dont need to tune albino specifically.

Orion's tuning table is for internal generators only, not for VSTi plugins.

exactly. That's why I asked about this. I was hoping I could load the same file into Albino.

Albino has several scale files for Indian intonation, but nothing called North Indian Gamut, or whatever the included scale in Orion is called.

See this page:
http://www.huygens-fokker.org/scala/

Even if the format is different, that specific North Indian tuning must be exist in the Scala format too. But it can be hard to identify, if an exotic scale has several different names.

ok, I've checked it out, but I think it's going to take a lot to figure something like that out. I looked at the tutorial example that Scala gives you after start up, but it's not a simple thing to get into in one night. hehe thanks for the heads up!

I just compared the sound of Albino when one of it's Indian scales is loaded, and then wasp when Orion's included indian scale is loaded into song preferences. I can hear differences trying to play a major scale on Albino, but wasp sounds exactly the same as it did before.

there's an archive of something like 700+ scales at the bottom of the download page. Just found the same scale in the .scl format that was in the Albino list as a TUN file.

Wasp sounds really funny :)

Check the preset's Fine parameter if you wouldn't like how Wasp sounds, many presets have some detuning, the default one 7 cents off.
