Sound Forge 9Ok, I got too annoyed with all the shortcomings in Audacity, that I finally gave up on it. It has all the features I need, technically speaking, but the way they're implemented and the workflow is so pathetic it's starting to be a time vampire using it.
So I checked out SF 9 (owned earlier versions, but didn't upgrade). The cheap version costs 20 EUR and doesn't seem to have any severe limitations. Finally ASIO support, yippie! And VST plugin support. The scan crashed consistently btw, had to figure out which VST plugin it was, otherwise SF 9 never starts (why on earth people bitch about the plug checker in Orion, which elegantly solves this problem no other VST host solves, is beyond me, btw- I absolutely hate it if apps are impossible to launch due to buggy VST plugins crashing them consistenly, they don't even remember which one it was!). Aside from this little hickup, SF 9 looks really, really awesome and I'm glad I bought it! I'll let you know if I find any showstoppers, but so far it looks like a total steal. Ok, it was 30 EUR sorry! But make no mistake, it has everything you need: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/audiostudio/compare Granted, some might depend on those extra 'pro' features, but I only need something *FAST* to do simple editing jobs, normalize, cut/copy/paste, trim and convert WAV files, that's about it. And have a proper VU, sample#, and dB display so I can do that hassle-free. Admin - Synapse Audio Software

Looks great indeed! Better than Audacity for sure, the workflow/features seem to be heavily inspired by SF But a few minor things I still find faster in SF 9, like switching to the sample display by right-clicking on the bottom right area, zooming x- and y- independently with the mouse wheel. Simple stuff like that, but it affects my workflow. But anyways, Wavosaur might come in handy for some tasks, so big thanks for letting me know about it! Admin - Synapse Audio Software

Sound Forge 9I use again Audacity sometimes because it was the first audio editor i've used to convert wavs to mp3s . Then , i used a lot the Goldwave demo , i've really liked its " reduce peaks " . Now i try to use the most possible Wavosaur because it's translated into French ( now i should understand better technical terms ) , it supports vst effects and you don't need to install it on you hard drive and you can create your own skins . I've already made a donation for its support and also made some skins for it .

Sound Forge 9I have Gold Wave, but the jewel in the crown is "Sound Probe 2".
The company that made this editor went out of business because of Crackers. Within a month of release it was freely available on every torrent site on the NET. The program does not suppot VST's only DX and it's own built in effects, but they are all of such good quality and there are over 50. And NO! I bought it. Sound Forge 9I put up with SF9, now that Cool Edit will no longer run reliably with Vista, but I'd put up with it's slower processing for it's workflow any day. I don't use ASIO with SF because it would make editing from the Playlist impossible.

Sound Forge 9Hey folk,
Yeah I use SoundForge because of the Acid looping tools for cutting loops. It displays a 4 4 vertical lines over your selection. I'm waiting for the day when some dev adds a metronome click on each of the lines. Wishing contents
Sound Forge 9 You can create loops and slicing with Wavosaur .
Sound Forge 9Surprised you don't splurge on WaveLab Rich. It's better my own penis and my right arm for me.
Best thing Steinbergs ever done IMHO.
Sound Forge 9I put this idea forward to the Wavosaur devs and they said they'd think about. In fact they said"We love metronomes" teehee
