well, my set up is quite old now..my pc was new in Jan 04, my controller was new in..prob 2001/2
the first 8 knobs dont work, they send out out random values unless turned to zero, keys work ok tho
my HDD is strting to make grinding noises again..its done it before, and ive had to reformat a few times due to 'oddness' of various descriptions...
my CPU is not up to modern requirements it seems, not even SSE2, tho speed wise i think its done a bloody good job...but i must admit it would be nce to actually run some of the stuff i have more often (Alchemy/Zebra2 etc)
HDD size is fine, its only 120gig, but apart from photos, i dont keep millions of samples just for the sake of it
RAM is pitiful tho..512meg, thats always beena downer...
now, the last 2 days, a few keys are sticking on my pc kybd...
oh well, its served me well, and more recently the mrs and kids too...not built to last these things
hopefully, it will last another 6 months or so, until things (hopefully) pick up on the work front and i can replace the tower...
just wanted to winge a bit..had a rough day

Falling To BitsYech, sorry to hear about the slow, painful death.. how's Dell's rep over there? They offer deep discounts regularly and are really solid machines for the money.

Falling To Bitswouldnt touch a DELL...i can get a mega machine (compared to mine) pretty cheap, off the shelf...but not right now
i have bought 2 PC's, one in 2000, and this one in 2004, both cost me £1000 UK each...for prob half that at the most i can get a machine 6 times bigger/powerfull etc etc..thats the way it goes with technology as you know but, as i said, work is very slow here (im self employed which doesnt help) so till it picks up im crossing my fingers my pc doesnt die on me...(im actually hoping it doesnt die at all cos i can give this one to the boy and have a new one to myself ) its another day tomorrow Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Falling To BitsHoly crap Krim, as much as I hated to part with my rinky dink Toshiba - I just had to eventually. Still a great little beast, and I miss W2K to this day. But the performance and handling on a bigger better system is like night and day in comparison now. I'm amazed you hung onto yours for so long.
What you may find is as you get newer machines, they get less 'personal'. I went to town with my Toshiba with wallpaper, sound effects, layout. Now I just want my new guy to work, screw the farty stuff - just in, on, and done. I suppose when I HAVE to get into Vista, it'll just be my OP box then. And I'm seriously contemplating Apple if that's going to be the case. OP and IE, and the Vista crap's for what again?
