House Hunter - Prodigy Stylewill give you some feedback tomorrow
I tried 1 week ago to recreate that big bass + drum style of fat of the land. It was painfull, but I succed almost... But impossible for me to recreate that gtr leads, this ambiance, and perfectly genious tracks as they did... House Hunter - Prodigy StyleYeah that guy is a top producer.
The bassline on Warriors Dance is like nothing I have heard before. Take the big dancey tracks off Jilted, Fat of the land, and now the latest album, they are just the highest quality dance / techno. I wish I could program breakbeats half as good as Liam Howlett lol
House Hunter - Prodigy Stylefirst listen, the melowdy looks like,
your sound seems a bit less filtred. The snare isn't enough high for me The lead is cool too @ 1 min 20, but the track need another variation to me when this starts and generally to others transiions too. Its pleasant to listen, not close to the prodigy, but some things remind me their style. Also the gtr part is good at the begining, but it sounds to be absent from the track. btw, here was my 30 mins groove attempt. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0O2KWVZ1 A loop, (sliced, distorted...) + one shots. Audio export, and parallel playing after slicing again and working on volume and decay of slices. Orion 8, Live 8Le, Cubase 4 LE, Cantana, APC40, UC16, Fostex PM1MKII, Q9550, 4G0, 1,5T, 22"+15"

House Hunter - Prodigy StyleNow on topic.
Really nice lead sounds. I have the feeling that bass is too much stereo which is a no for that music alike. Try some distortion on bass (not much) to give some more agreessive feeling. If you can sample some fat snares and kicks from r&b-jazz tunes to use them instead of 808-909 like is gonna be better. Some compression on kick is a good thing. You need a more cheap piano or open the mids on it remove reverb, export it to wav bring it back in and cut the tail from chords to give it a more oldschool feel. My humble opinion. House Hunter - Prodigy Styleyes Vicious few guys keep mentioning the 909 snares.
Maybe I was just being too lazy and adding in a 909 machine lol Originally the piano line had no Reverb but it sounded really basic, so I cheated and added some reverb to give it more depth. But you are correct, it's supposed to sound "old skool" but doesnt quite manage it. As for the bassline, I am too scared too touch it. Took me a long time to get it sitting where it is, but point taken on board. First time I have used Hydra for a bassline and I am impressed. Thanks for the constructive comments so far, appreciate it.
House Hunter - Prodigy Stylei think your tune is as good as if not better than the prodigy's - hadn't heard this new stuff of theirs, and dont like it nearly as much as 'breathe' and 'firestarter'.
for me, the drums would have to be heavier, punch through much more. i think the instrumentation is interesting, like the bass and guitar-ish part at the start (is it a synth?) the fact is, i'm an old bloke, and the tempo is too fast for me! :sleep64: if you sent me the sfs, i would immediately slow it down to 75 bpm and dial in some biig drums! so i'm not the best to comment, but i did like listening to it. House Hunter - Prodigy StyleI can understand you how the bass took you so long as i hit my self hard to the wall so many time to make a sound sit in a mix.
My sugestion on that would be to not hear a sound by it self. Make a 4 bar loop of your song with a new generator-vst. Mute the original. Copy your notes from bass there and start from scratch. When you find a really big sound that fits so good with the rest propably you are gonna find that it is really shit sounding by it self. Mixing advice to everyone, something that sound shit alone can really make pure magic into a mix My really big sounding basses are not only made by one synth this times. I layer 2-3 different VST to achieve a big sound. Try it for your self. I hope this helps Emu1212m | Alesis micron | Edirol pcr500 | FOCAL CMS 50 | Senheiser hd 25-1 II | Core i7 etc
