I recently bought a lovely EMU 0404 PCI soundcard and everything's going swimmingly, except my speaker system (4 satellites, 1 woofer) seems to only be playing music only from Left rear and front, nothing from the right side.
The speaker system has 2 cables (which I converted to 1/4 by jack adaptors) going into both the inputs of the soundcard, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I didn't have this issue on my older, generic soundcard.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

New soundcard/speaker issueEmu soundcards are not ment to be 5.1 this is an audio STEREO channel soundcard.
Read emu's manual everything is in there possibly you gonna need new cables to conect everything right. Emu1212m | Alesis micron | Edirol pcr500 | FOCAL CMS 50 | Senheiser hd 25-1 II | Core i7 etc
New soundcard/speaker issueSwitch the cables around and see if only the Right side sounds now. Might be a bad cable/connection.
New soundcard/speaker issueOr perhaps you could look in the drivers settings. There might be one for surround or something. If there is, your current settings might be set to "stereo", hence only one output working.
I don't have an Emu soundcard, just blabbering here. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
New soundcard/speaker issueAh, that does make sense Vicious_Angel. When I plug in one cable, Left Front activates, when I plug in the other Left Rear activates. I've got the cabling right so I went crazy just thinking it is a 'general' left and right difference.
So, would it be okay to just use Left Front and Left Rear as left and right respectively? Or alternatively could I dump in a second cheap, consumer PCI card and have that just for output? I'm happy with the card (and removed my first one due to crackling and inadequacy for music use) but did forget that I would lose surround, which is not a big problem with a standalone TV. New soundcard/speaker issueyou should get yourself a decent pair of monitors for production, down the lane.
right now you could temporary hook up any similar pair from your surround setup if your planning to add an additional card make sure it is not a creative card. creative and emu drivers have some common driver files and cause BSOD's.
New soundcard/speaker issueThanks for that.
And definitely, dedicated monitors are a future purchase. Just at the moment I've spent too much already.
New soundcard/speaker issueHow many cables does your speaker system have? EDIT I mean inputs

New soundcard/speaker issueCheck to see how many black rings your 1/4 adapters and your speaker miniplugs have. Your soundcard outputs are left and right mono outs. If the adapters or the mini plugs or whatever are stereo you will run into some problems.

New soundcard/speaker issue4 inputs on the woofer for the satellites and then two 3.5mm cables come out of the woofer which I've plugged into the Emu outputs with 6.3 adaptors.
Both the mini 3.5 cables and the 6.3 adaptors have two black rings. So, if I get mono 6.3 adaptors would I get sound from all speakers? Last edited by mo79 on Thu Apr 16, 2009 10:41 am, edited 1 time in total.
New soundcard/speaker issueYou say your old generic soundcard was surround capable? Not sure if mono adapters would work the way you want. Trying to figure out a way you could a least get 4 channel stereo.
New soundcard/speaker issueYep, 4 channel stereo would be great.
My old soundcard was a budget Audigy 2, which was indeed surround sound capable. If I plug an mp3 player (stereo out) into the surround system, all speakers activate. Last edited by mo79 on Thu Apr 16, 2009 12:26 pm, edited 1 time in total.
New soundcard/speaker issueMono plugs haven't made a difference. Any other suggestions?
