5 years with Orion now. Was just looking for the invoice but seems to be somewhere in the big pile of papers. Must have been more or less exactly 5 years ago when I bought Orion Platinum 4.
Haha... And feel right now like 5 years ago. My recent track starts to stutter like hell as it's too big for my CPU. Will get a QuadCore this week. :biglol:

Happy Anniversary Good choice ! You'll see the power you're going to get . I don't use much effects and automations like you friends but in my next wip project ( 30 minutes for the moment and not finished yet ) i've inserted so many instruments that's simply incredible ! My pc runs at more or less ten percent of cpu with internet and panda antivirus running at the same time . I'm really happy to have changed my old processor for a quadcore !
Happy AnniversaryIf you are a heavy vst guy as me i sugest you to go with an i7 as i did
Emu1212m | Alesis micron | Edirol pcr500 | FOCAL CMS 50 | Senheiser hd 25-1 II | Core i7 etc
Happy Anniversary
It's too early to go for a new system now. think the Quad upgrade will fix the problem. will try to overclock the cpu to 3,2 GHz, if system is still stable and Orion is not running crazy.
Happy AnniversaryE8500 dualcore is a very trong solution too, i can tell from my setup
Happy AnniversaryI have a E8400 3 GHz dual core running at 3.6 GHz for about 18 months now with no problems. I forget what fan I fitted, just it was an oversized quite one.
Happy Anniversary10 years for me soon....come the summer
Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM
250GB SSD - 1TB HDD | M-Audio Oxygen 25 V

I do already have a DualCore E6700 overclocked. But it's not enough horse power for recent projects. The more heavy synths like Minimonsta etc. you add and especially the more chords you play, the easier it is to reach the limit. I have two Minimonsta in my recent project playing heavy chords with open sustain and release. That's already enough to push the CPU to 70%.

The E8000 series is much more powerful than the E6700 cous it hast 6 MB lvl 2 Chash E6700 has only 2 Mb thats about 3 times faster just becouse of that and than u can get up to 3,5 ghz with 1300 mhz FSB maximum for its price the E8400/E8500 is the best deal I dont have minimonster but Iam sure i could run ur project easiely I hardly can max it out, even with tons of effects
Happy Anniversary
The E6700 has 4MB. And 3 times more Cache does not mean 3 times faster. The board is more than 2 years old and the max. I can run is a Quad 6700. Whatever. A QuadCore, even with less GHz, is faster than a DuoCore system, if the software supports multi core propperly. As Orion's multi core engine is superb, I will get better results even without overclocking. My normal projects drive the CPU load to 30 - 40% normally. Get the demo version of minimonsta, get 2 or three instances, play chords (6 notes at the same time) on each of them and open up cutoff, sustain and release. I'm pretty sure your system will hit the border line. Last edited by DaZoid on Wed Apr 29, 2009 11:36 am, edited 1 time in total.
