For those who have asked repeatedly for something big and clubby, here you go. Combines pieces of 7 of my more recent releases with tons of new instrumentation and arrangement.
Composed entirely in Orion Platinum (current beta. The only beta-only feature used was Merge). 80% native synths/FX, 20% free VSTs.
Oh, and crank the bass. It's big.

"This Changes Nothing" (new club/trance track)Sweet! Love the intro! Really ravey stuff it gets into. And then the nice poppy lo-fi break, cool! Don't tell me that's Plucked String?
Fantasphreque!
"This Changes Nothing" (new club/trance track)Is this one you sent me ? I like most of it but I really don't like the 'brass' rave stabs, It dominates things to much imo, but the rest especially the little blips in the break etc. are great
"This Changes Nothing" (new club/trance track)It should be bigger man!!!! You havent been to the club for a while?
"This Changes Nothing" (new club/trance track)Not in the last 7 years, really. Just not my scene The only way I could (given my current understanding of the mastering tools used) would be do drop the volume and boost the reverb/delay which made the whole thing sound thinner. And iunno bout choo, but I'm not much in the mood for setting up a series of PEQs and compressors on a BandFX holder!

It is. I settled on that particular stab because of the wideness - I was having trouble getting as big a sound from other synths so easily (and it's also kind of an inside joke with my coworkers... reference to Venture Brothers). Club music isn't my thing for the most part, and frankly I'm looking forward to pursuing breaks in my next projects. Phreque.com - Weapons-Grade Awesome.
"This Changes Nothing" (new club/trance track)Also, Dee, I wonder if our differing tastes on some particular points have to do with the monitors we're using. Some things you point out in my tracks are the opposite of what I've found in yours, maybe because of XChorus? There's a definite difference in the stereo spaces we seem to prefer.

"This Changes Nothing" (new club/trance track)Some things that could help:
Fatter kick Clap that cuts trhough the synth Compression on the reverb triggered by the kick A more convincing open hihat Background string with compression triggered by the kick for the whoosh whoosh effect
"This Changes Nothing" (new club/trance track)
Re: kick - could you explain what exactly you mean by this? Someone always says this no matter how beefy I aim to make them, to the point that it either really doesn't mean anything, or someone just hasn't defined it properly yet. Re: clap - I feel it's quite standard trancy enough without beating people in the face. I skipped an open hihat for this very reason. (which more or less also nulls the convincing hihat bit). In fact, there are two claps and two finger snap samples stacked to make it higher pitched and more piercing to contend with the mids and highs already in the mix. re: compression on reverb - it's already there. And quite noticeable on my monitors, home stereo, and car. re: strings - tried it, but it made the mix sound much too crowded. As it is, I'm pushing the boundary for how many ideas can be mooshed into one track! Whatever the case, thanks for the comments. I've either hit the production ceiling as far as what I can do on my current equipment, or it's simply not to taste. Either way, neither will be changing any time soon Last edited by epilogue on Mon Jun 22, 2009 4:22 am, edited 1 time in total.

"This Changes Nothing" (new club/trance track)he he...i am sensing a bit of composer irritation here ( glad to know i am not the only one )
so i took a listen....and while its not exactly club suited, this is more of listening pleasure type of track. while keeping your themes as they are and to make it more clubby oriented -replace the kick with a prominent kick. it should be such that it is prominent and says "yo i am the fucking kick mofo!". one thing to do is to set your volume of your monitor at 0db and set the kick with the bassline accordingly. after that may set the volume back to comfortable listening db and add other elements. since at the club they will be very loud and most ppl drunk, this is what they need. -once the above is done, its just a matter of introducing buildups/down and throwing in your elements accordingly.
"This Changes Nothing" (new club/trance track)That's actually quite helpful - thanks, suneel

"This Changes Nothing" (new club/trance track)
There is a demo song that comes with Orion from Wellenrausch. The drumkit that he uses would fit nice with this track. It would give u a more prominent and up to date Drumkick and also a good clap and open hihat. About the compression: in a lot of trance music nowadays there is a major exaggeration of compression on all instruments in favor of the kick. You get that whoosh whoosh whoosh effect ... u know what i mean?? I will make an example of what i mean and send it to u Could be that you dont like it and dont want to apply it to your songs but then at least you know what i mean I listened on my headphones (at night) so maybe i will notice it on my monitors. I can imagine that extra strings wouldnt fit with the lead synth.
"This Changes Nothing" (new club/trance track)Funny you should mention the Wellenrausch - the kick and one of the claps are both from it
