DirtyBass - The cavern of lost soulsMan, that's some grungy sounding house music! Definately 'dirty bass'. Not sure if he's using a Yamaha MU and/or AN PLG board.
This old tune of mine was done solely on a MU100R, and has similar feedback (One of the best modelling engines to this day IMHO) All Aboard Last edited by Dungeon Studio on Thu Jul 02, 2009 12:39 am, edited 1 time in total.
DirtyBass - The cavern of lost soulsPretty cool song almost takes me back to the late 90's there was some pretty warm Electronica in those days. Software I think has something to do with that.
-Orion-Emu 1616 -Korg Triton Extreme - Ibanez - Vox Tone Labs.
DirtyBass - The cavern of lost soulsYes and no Joe-Joe. I'm not sure when Dirty Bass did his song, probably pretty recent. My song example is over 10 years old, and was entirely on a 1U Rack Module (which I thought was pretty amazing to do at the time) But yes, groups like The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy were either putting real TB-303's through Yamaha O2 Digital boards, or using Steinberg A1's through Ibanez stomp pedals.
There was a spell I'd say from 1999 to 2003 where hardware was insane and complex to use (EX5's, JP8000's, Hartman Neurons, etc) Yet software VSTi's were 'light and plastic' sounding, and needed umpteen VST effects to go through. I think when NI did the Pro53, that's when I started noticing a serious warmth to virtual instruments. And now someone like Kriminal can get and utilise a 'Analog Modelled Engine' that sounds really impressive (Felix, that is) So is Dirty Bass using Analog Modelling? It sounds to me like he is. And if so, what? Because I want it too!
DirtyBass - The cavern of lost soulsYo, well I am Dirty Bass, been away working in the studio, playing live and studying to become an audio instructor, so I`ve had no time to come in here.
Anyhow to answer the question, firstly, you can hear full length promo`s of that Techno release here http://www.myspace.com/dirtybassrecordings I`ve been using a lot of feedback techniques in my releases lately. You can hear another tune with some extreme feedback at the following link http://www.myspace.com/dirtybassvoidloss the track is called smashed apart to everywhen Anyhow, all my music now is produced entirely within Orion The feedback was simply a pad made with FM8, I then used comb filter to push some harmonic frequencies and further to that a standard moog style filter with high res was subtley moved around to pick and enhance certain freq`s in a slightly random way, the whole lot was then run through some very nice distortion (amplitube) I used to be in industrial bands and loved playing with feedback, pinch harmonics and sitting right in front of the amp, and by using over resonance with filters (and picking harmonic frequencies) with good distortion and overdrive plugs you can emulate this kind of thing pretty easily these days.
