My big irk with my old Toshiba was OP and some of these VSTi's being so HUGE in my screen. Nice to have a big ass mixer with 8 channels. But s time went on, it got a bit much. Though I still use my old lappy for MIDI stuff, and would like to still use OP in ertain cases.
I'm not sure OP8 would even work if I did put it on now? But that's my 'travelling mate' and would be nice to utilise these 'set up templates' and AT patterns with MIDI gear once again and so on.
800x600 would be appreciated!

Important Research Question - Monitor Resolution?LOL!
Important Research Question - Monitor Resolution?
It sits on my lap when I use it. I carry it to and from work sometimes. To me it's a laptop, though some might call it a desktop replacement. Anyway, they're just names. It's only 4kg and the battery lasts up to 3 hrs with a light cpu load. I'll get back to you about the 22". It's a Sony something.
Important Research Question - Monitor Resolution? The ironic thing to is - and must admit I'm considering these new 'mini laptops' by Dell et al. I like my big honking XPS 17" screen, but my little 14" Toshiba is so nice to carry. And these little 12" screens or less seem to exude some considerable power inside these days. A Palm Pilot on steroids pretty well. Now if I could get OP running well enough and discernable on these little guys, I think I could be definately more 'mobile' in capturing and displaying ideas with others.
And preferably without everyone having to use a magnifying glass to see my screen.

Important Research Question - Monitor Resolution?I used to have a 12" laptop running at 1024x768. It certainly was more mobile. Shame about the 1GHz CPU though.
Important Research Question - Monitor Resolution?I need to answer no, so I am not going to reply, in respect of WBs wish.

Important Research Question - Monitor Resolution?
No, you can't. I don't think anyone makes one. 18.5" is about the biggest I've seen and they weigh at least 4kg and I think you'd have a hard time balancing one on your lap for any length of time.
I can see teh fdifference between my old TFT monitor and the new one I bought earlier this year for around a grand less than the old one. It's night and day, even a two year old flat-screen will look like krap compared to the cheapest one you can buy today. I was doing some training for a guy last week who just bought a new pro broadcast monitor [all sorts fo settings to help you output stuff for TV]. It's a Sony 22" HD TFT monitor that retails for Au$38,000. Sony stopped making CRTs about 5 years ago, even for the professional market. I can only assume you are a luddite.
You should try working with one of my skins on it. If you don;t like the dark colours, there is always the LIGHT Skin. The Mixer strips are less than half the width of the default skin, as well as being a little shorter, which should make it much easier to work with on a low-res screen.
I'll never go back to anything bigger than a 15.4". Even teh 17" I carried around for Autodesk for 3 years was too heavy at 3.2kg it was OK for short hauls but I often had to carry it for 5 or 6 hours a day. My 15.4" is definitely a desktop replacement, being capable of taking a quad-core CPU and with workstation class graphics. Since I put an SSD in it, I get really good battery life from it too, even though I have it on a "maximum power" power setting. I want to get another SSD for it, as it can take a 2nd drive [only a 1.8" though]. For Orion though, the 15.4" isn't any better at all than my 13.3" XPS was. It's just that the XPS lacked the graphics capability I need for work. I really can't see myself ever buying another desktop computer. I'd appreciate a model no. on that Sony, thanks. Important Research Question - Monitor Resolution?I might consider getting a SSD, although just the one. I'm more than happy to keep my data on my 64Gb pen drives.
The monitor: I just realised I said it's a TFT, which is a bit stupid because it's a CRT. It's massive and weighs at least 30 kg! It's a Sony CPD G520. If you're considering getting one, make sure you get to look at one in action (I'm sure you don't need that advice). Some (not all) people who I work with complain about the screen flickering (when they look over my shoulder!), but I don't really notice it except from the corner of my eye when I look away. The refresh rate is 60 Hz. They also complain that they can't read what's on the screen. I'm quite happy with that. I use it for image processing/analysis and programming. The screen image is nice and crisp though the colour gamut is not as extensive as my 'laptop', but then that has 90% gamut.
Important Research Question - Monitor Resolution?I most often worked at 1152 x 864 on my desktop which is currently down, and therefore, beside the point.
I work at 1280 x 800 on my laptop. -7zark7
Important Research Question - Monitor Resolution?OK, I've decided to go with a slight compromise. The new skin will work at 1024. It's a little more roomy than before but still not perfect. See teh other thread to have a look.

Important Research Question - Monitor Resolution?1024 is best. In our software (not related to music) we are trying to make it usable on screens 1024x768 and more.

Important Research Question - Monitor Resolution? Can't you make two toolbars? One default for 1024 x 768 and another for Hi-res users?
Important Research Question - Monitor Resolution? As I see, there are not many controls on toolbar. So why not to make it screen size independent ? Empty space will just be filled with pattern like in current version. And if there will be more controls in V8, the best way is to do toolbars wrappable or multiple toolbars like in SONAR. Or, like markholtuk says, two skins for different resolutions.
