Probably because Orion has accessed it at some point in that session. Midwife accesses MIDI ports independently of Orion and so it can lead to the situation you find yourself. Restart Orion and insert Midwife ASAP. It might also help to disable Orion's MIDI out, although I've had both Midwife and Orion's MIDI generator running concurrently using different ports.

Clearly Orion isnt killing processes when its closed.

Im closed down now, will try again tomorrow.

Looking closer at the image, I find it surprising that you don't actually have a device selected! So, a strange message.

This sounds exactly like what I need! I tried all the links in this thread but when I try to download, nothing happens. Does anyone, or Mark, have a copy of this program they can re-upload?

Yes, I have it thanks to ThehakkeMadman :D I just managed to load it up today after finishing up a huge project. But I couldn't get it to work at all  It can send midi messages to the nord and I can record, but how would I assign it to say control the modwheel on nord? I tried link to generator, but it just moves the knob on the gui. I assigned it midi 19, which is the CC for the modwheel, but nothing happens again. :|

I think you need to switch to MIDI mode in generator settings. I need to go back and look at this and a lot of other stuff, but I've had so little free time this year that it's not funny :(
