Anyone know of a way to get rid of the "Physical memory is getting low!" warning... Maybe a registry fix or something? It pops up immediately when samples begin loading – up to 6 times depending on the song. It’s really unnecessary as I have a super-fast i7 machine with 8GB of ram which can handle anything thrown at it.
A typical Orion load:
Total (RAM) 8082
Cached 4575
Available 4560
Free 30
Sure, the warning appears because the ‘free’ amount is relatively small, but with nearly 5GB ‘available’ samples continue to load quickly and smoothly. I just wish I could turn that warning off!
Edit: same load after computer restart gives these numbers -
Cached 1728
Available 5255
Free 3642

Re: Physical memory is getting low!No, it's not.
Re: Physical memory is getting low!I don't think there's a registry fix to make it go away, or I can't find one, but the fact that you're getting it suggests you have a problem somewhere else - a memory leak somewhere, perhaps. I have 4GB on Win7-64 and aside from really heavy usage, I haven't seen that warning popping up that often, and I can load about 15 7-8 minutes long tracks at 44/16 without any problem (no warnings). So, to rule things out, could you please list your system specifications, and are you using any sampler-type of instrument when you get that warning?

Re: Physical memory is getting low!I also get that when I use Personal Orchestra. I always think that it's because I use Orion 32bit (Win7 64bit OS). Maybe the 2 MB restrictions are still in place while running 32bit prgs. Don't know...
Re: Physical memory is getting low!For x86 (32bit) the limit is around 1.7gb after that you are in no mans land. It certainly wont ever go above 2gb for x86. try to see if it works in orion x64, x64 has no restrictions and will go as far as ram is available. btw even if you have 8gb its a not a good idea to turn off pagefile (on windows). Look at your peak mem usage and set the pagefile max to that value...more explanation can be found at the interwebs
Re: Physical memory is getting low!I can load many samples on my old XP machine, which has just 1GB RAM, and this warning won’t appear until it’s necessary after a song is heavily loaded with samples On my Win7 64bit machine the warning appears automatically – I mean before samples actually start loading. I had a look at free physical memory after I got the first warning – 4407 free.
The only samplers I have that use significantly large samples are Kompakt and Intakt, both with Kompakt samples and Eastwest samples (not opting for “auto-convert loaded samples to 32bit” makes no difference). But anyway, it’s not a problem on my old laptop. I don’t think Orion x64 is an option. I’m running Orion 6 on both machines (I had issues with rendering on 7). Using Orion on the new laptop couldn't be better - just wonderful, so this warning message is more of an irritation than a major concern.

Re: Physical memory is getting low!Hypnagogia, I don't think I want to mess about with this. Thanks all the same. It's unlikely that I'll completely run out of memory (on my 1GB RAM machine Orion was simply unable to load samples if out of memory, so that's how I knew when I was out of memory). But the issue is not memory (or the lack of it)... I'm swimming in memory. I have memory coming out of my ears...
Re: Physical memory is getting low! That's ok. It seems complicated, but it's not really. IMO, likeliness of something going wrong is not that high, unless you really strike the unlucky cord, then you're in for the world of problems, but even then fixing it could be really easy - you'd just run Windows in Safe mode, run the registry exports you've made and it would place them back in appropriate places for you, as if you haven't changed anything. What this basically does is cutting the references to the memory monitoring modules, so they aren't called upon when you system determines it's running low on memory. Which in some cases is set pretty high, think it's set to something like 20% of total amount. In your case, that's still pretty high to run out. I guess you'll just have to live with it.

Re: Physical memory is getting low!Well, I held my breath and did tinker with the registry as you suggested - without success. The warning still pops up immediately upon loading the first sample.
I'll live with it.
Re: Physical memory is getting low!Hm, sorry to hear it didn't work for you. I really have no more ideas what could cause it or how to turn it off. Sorry. Maybe a sort of an instruction what you're doing when it happens would help, and someone might be able to help with the issue.

Re: Physical memory is getting low!you can do that because you have a pagefile. to get rid of your problem you need to enable page file as i already indicated.
