Is this possible ?
Can I tap out drum patterns using my qwerty keyboard (different drum pads being assigned to different keyboard buttons), rather than using the step-sequencer ?
Many, many thanks.

Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboardYes! You can trigger notes in the DrumRack from your qwerty keyboard using F12 to switch on/off the Virtual Midi Keyboard. .....
Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboardThank you for replying Teksonik. Very kind of you.
I tried pressing F12 to switch on the function.. then tried pressing everything on my qwerty.. but no samples being triggered. Sorry I'm such a numbskull. Any chance you could be more specific about what I should be doing ? I'll try not to bother you again. Many, many thanks.
Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboardTry press F2-F8 until find the correct Octave.
"Pleeease, bring back ORION!"
Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboardThank you dmassive
still nothing... maybe my keyboard has a fault.. dunno I'll keep trying... Started looking at Akai MPD's... They look promising.. and fun.
Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboardWhat version of Orion are you using ? Are you on a Laptop by any chance ?
Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboardDo you have "Engine always running" switched on in audio out settings?
Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboardHello Mark..
Yes I have "engine always running". Teksonik.. I'm using Orion 6.2 on a pc.
Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboardDoes your keyboard work with other generators e.g. Monobass or Wasp?
Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboardHello Mark..
I just tried using Wasp and other synths with my qwerty... yes it works.. just not with the drum rack or tomcat
Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboardLoad a Drumrack and a kit...then Record while hitting keys on your qwerty board and see if any notes are recorded. Sounds like it's working but just not triggering the right notes.......possibly the wrong octave
Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboardShouldn't matter for Tomcat, it can play in any octave.
Harry, make sure that your instrument has a focus - click on it before you start pressing keys. And of course you need to have Virtual MIDI Keyboard on (in Options, Virtual MIDI Keyboard (F12) should have a check mark on it). As for DrumRack, it conforms to the GS mapping standard. The notes start at B1, which to get you need to press F3 for proper octave, and then M for the right key. That's for when you're loading sets, from the presets list for example. If you're loading your own sample, the note for the first rack is C4 (F4 - I / F5 - Q / F6 - Z), C#4 for 2nd rack, D4 for 3rd, and so on. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboard
Teksonik.. I did as you suggested.. You're right. The midi is recorded but in the wrong octave. I tried a few different kits.. The octaves vary.. either too high or too low.. but the midi pattern is recorded. If I can just get it to record in the right octave [C5] it seems, then I'll be in business.
Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboard
Hello HYPNAGOGIA I've looked in Options.. Can't find any reference to Virtual MIDI keyboard. I switch 'on' using F2 but hitting the other Function keys doesn't appear to be doing anything here.
Re: Controlling Drumrack by QWERTY keyboardWell at least we know it's working now. F2,3,4, and 5 seem to switch octaves here but you're using a rather old version of Orion so I can't say for sure it will work there..........
