Hello, a question again...
I'm trying to switch waves with a square lfo but surprisingly this works not all the time. As soon as the the amount exceeds 10 or more the waves go all crazy and start to sound bad (the base wave from where the modulation starts then changes, too).
I've set the lfo-wave to skew=50% and "reset" to have a precise cycle start pos each time. But something goes wrong (see above).
I'll provide a basic patch if necessary.
Thanks.

Re: [Dune] Switching Waveforms with Square LFOI'm on my laptop now so no controller but I've got DUNE fired up and reproduced your patch from description. To be honest I've never used a Square Wave to switch waves only Sine or Noise. Sine being the only one that can come close to smoothly scan waves. What are you trying to accomplish with your patch ? Maybe it would be better to use Const to Osc Wave per voice ? Post the patch and I'll give it a try.........
EDIT: What's your base wave number ? I can sort of reproduce what you're reporting by using a Mod Amount that sends the wavetable out of range but I've always thought it would wrap around and start back at one again..........but like I said I've never tried a Square wave........
Re: [Dune] Switching Waveforms with Square LFOHi Tek,
the reason is "simple": I want to bring "life" to a sequence by other means than filter mods or similar. And yes, I was aware of gettin' out of the range thus playing with low values. But something's wrong (possibly me, who knows). Will post the patch in a minute or ten. Having dinner with my right hand at the moment.
Re: [Dune] Switching Waveforms with Square LFOUsing a Square wave you'll get lots of pops and clicks as the waves switch..............
Re: [Dune] Switching Waveforms with Square LFO
But it shouldn't happen. And indeed: with certain settings (read: amount) the plan goes well and smooth. But unpredictable at times. Here's a pic of a most basic patch. Increase the mod amount and the result goes nuts. Last edited by els on Mon Oct 21, 2013 9:30 pm, edited 2 times in total.
Re: [Dune] Switching Waveforms with Square LFO
Some waves click more than others some transitions are smoother than others. I see you're not using Square Waves in your LFOs in the screenshot. I tried the same thing here and nothing "goes nuts"......your LFO rates may be too high just looking at the screenie........Post the actual Patch and I'll have a go.......
Re: [Dune] Switching Waveforms with Square LFOOk I'm using a base wave of 1, a mod amount of 42 and a square wave in LFO 1 at 1.7 hz.........it pops and clicks like hell but nothing "nuts"..........
Maybe you're hearing the one shot waves (60-69) ? Mark............NDA in this case ? Last edited by Teksonik on Mon Oct 21, 2013 11:13 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: [Dune] Switching Waveforms with Square LFOMust admit the screen shot is wrong... it shows the sine wave as the modulator. (need a break, obviously)
But, really, I've been trying the whole (late) afternoon... and ONLY with a square wave... I come back tomorrow with real patches... we're gonna fix that, me hopes. ___ But before of that: what is "NDA"? Just curious...
Re: [Dune] Switching Waveforms with Square LFOSee my edit above....maybe you're hearing the one shot waves #60-69 ? Try the Noise wave a full Skew..........

Re: [Dune] Switching Waveforms with Square LFO
NDA. To the OP, a smoother way of achieving what you want would be to set osc1 to one wave type and osc2 to the other. Then use your lfo to modulate osc mix. I think the problem is that the lfo is unlikely to be a perfect square, therefore the will be a rapid scan through a few waves that are close to each other. With my approach the switch will be a lot smoother because you are truly switching between the two waveforms with better interpolation between them.
Re: [Dune] Switching Waveforms with Square LFOCheck out the patch I posted above............
Re: [Dune] Switching Waveforms with Square LFOAlright, Sir(s), I'm geekish as you are and therefore give you an example (note: wave select is controlled by arp):
[...] Please change the amount/vel and tell me what you hear. ___ edit: root note is C2 Last edited by els on Tue Oct 22, 2013 2:18 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: [Dune] Switching Waveforms with Square LFO
Two waveforms are not enough.
Think you're right.
Re: [Dune] Switching Waveforms with Square LFO
I hear the Osc scanning through the One Shot waveforms when Arp Velocity to Osc waveform amount is increased.....nothing unexpected.
