yeah right, i know i know, say if by any remote chance richard ever implements the serial verification thingy, you bet you ass you all would be crawling back in the forums.
what about the trust issues when you cant view some sections of the forums when your not logged in ? those sections are actually meant for orion users only. But now you actually dont know who is a legit user or not.
but i am kind of puzzled why you wont use serial to register here? you register and get all the loving trust you want. sounds very logical to me.

making the forums pest proofIf someone's got time to waste, and want to waste it here - we must be doing something right? As long as they're not causing any harm to the server for Rich.
But I haven't seen anything bad in ways of spam or goofy crap here. If someone wants to plug their song or CD in every music locale they can find - that's cool. If it's evident they were using everything else but OP, we're free to ridicule and question to our hearts content. Let it be free to the masses I say. If we see any stranger worse than Bones on a bad day - then maybe the wall should be built...?
making the forums pest proofdid you not read what i typed? Everything is the SAME except non-registered users log in as GUESTS. Registered users are those who have registered. Thats it.
making the forums pest proofOkay, I see it's because of these 'crackers' coming in. Didn't know what you were getting at to begin with.
I guess so - but don't some of these cracker jacks get registration #'s to open software as well? They could just use that to gain access to the forum as well couldn't they, and we'd still have to burn their asses. It's as sticky as illegal aliens in the States... Yes, they're breaking the law - but they want to work, and give themselves and loved ones a better life. Or like a store with 'Do Not Touch! Please Ask For Assistance' - that cut's sales down by 50% right there. If someones interested in OP - cracked or not, we should help and encourage them as best we can. 'Insiders' and 'Outsiders' creates bias and mistrust from the get go to me. And as long as OP can stay one step ahead of the crackers... Hopefully many will buy the legit version and continue on with us and OP? I'd be really worried of detering people by becoming a 'clique' here.
making the forums pest proofCome on, it was just two 'demouser', two potential customers. Anger against them won't help to get them to legitime users, and they will exit here thinking us crabby snobs and will dislike Orion and its community.
making the forums pest proofthats right, but then duplicate serials will be tracked. depending upon how the serial is generated one can take the necessarily action. those potential customers came up with a verdict orion was useless. btw one of those champs got himself a fully working copy of orion 64. great potential indeed. i am sorry i fail to understand the logic behind your reasoning. legitimate users should be thrilled to register and use the forums, why would they ever get pissed off for enforcing their authority? for all you know it would make it special and people will spend their $s, just to get into community. making the forums pest proofI have different logins from the forum and service area. If i am correct i joined the forum for some question before i buy the product and when i bought orion i created a new account on the servise area with the fear if sometime i get hacked etc.
It would be nice if the was a orion symbol or synth pack symbol above our name so to know to who we are talking etc. I get frustrated answering posts of little assholes that use warezed stuff. You really have to be a great asshole to come to the official forum and ask for help for a warezed version. A quick question? Is it possible to change my name to the one i have for the servise area or something? Emu1212m | Alesis micron | Edirol pcr500 | FOCAL CMS 50 | Senheiser hd 25-1 II | Core i7 etc

True, but stealing something from a store and then going back and asking how to use it is so pathetic that there's little hope of turning such d-bags into customers. Admin - Synapse Audio Software

Yes, that's pathetic. I just expressed which could be the most beneficial approach to the problem even from the business perspective, and I'm sure witch-hunt won't help and anger breed anger. Last edited by Lance on Wed Feb 04, 2009 8:03 pm, edited 1 time in total.

There's already enough snobbery here without the restrictions imposed. Edit, just to add that I meant this as a joke. It would be nice to know who actually owns the thing on the forums. I think some game companies, like Bioware, have this on their forums. It says 'game owner' or some shit under their user names. You probably don't remember this, but way back in the day I came here with an issue that was only due to me having a pirated copy. I forget what name I was registered under and I think the forum was different or somewhere else. This was years back. I felt like a tool, but it was also amusing to my friends and I learned to take any instability in Orion with a grain of salt until I actually bought the thing. I love this program, without a doubt, but I do not regret pirating it for all that time as I was not making money from it or even playing shows with it for free. When I began doing live shows and semi-releasing music, I felt a responsibility to buy it. It's an amazing, seemingly homegrown sort of project you have here and you deserve to be paid for it, just like an artist for his work. I wanted to purchase Wavelab 6 to use in Vista after using an illegal version 5 for ages and it's so fucking overpriced that it's comical. That shit drives people to pirate. making the forums pest proofIt is a bit blatant coming on the forum and saying you are "trying out" Orion 64 and there being no demo of it available. Fortunately I think that this forum polices itself well, spots d-bags pretty damn quickly.
What amazed me about that guy was after repeatedly being told that he was bent he came back again and again to spout his crap. I think that bones summed it up when he talked about the rich guy who ONLY uses cracks and warez and thinks he is clever. Rich I guess you know who is for real and who isn't. For the rest of us I think the forum gives a good seeing-off to idiots, but at the same time encourages new-comers and first-timers. With all the wealth of experience here it would be a shame to restrict the forum. I have learned more things on this forum than I would have found in a pdf manual. Guess this place is like a living manual Cheers
making the forums pest proofMy feelings too Lance. D-bags will be d-bags, and the inexperienced will be inexperienced. I hate to see some 16 year old come in and ask simply 'I can't get any patterns to work?'. And like you say - there's this great behind the scenes witch hunt to check and verify his serial #, is it copied from someone elses? Maybe he stole it from a store? Hacked into the system and made his own serial #?
Meanwhile the poor kid just wants to make a beat with OP. Start excluding, they might go elsewhere in time? It's like advertising - 98% wasted for 2% sold. As long as it's selling is the thing.
making the forums pest proofi love the idea of registered users get badge for serial #...
it's a great idea imo. propellerhead does it too.
