Still doesn't change the fact there aren't many of 4:3 that go beyond that either.

which you dont need to as there is not a single plugin that will go off the screen at that resolution.

1680×1050 (I have one too, I guess these are very cheap already, if you find supply, because they're getting 'old tech', they're not in mass production already) or a 1920×1080 (so-called Full HD, starting from around 100€) will do fine from the wide type of monitors. I rarely see 4:3 LCDs in stores nowadays, and even then they're not really cheaper.

With such stuff, it's always those models are the most affordable or having the best value-for-money ratio, which are in their peak of mass production. When they are the mainstream or top selling in their market segments.

So because of this you may easily find a Full HD monitor cheaper (check the BenQ brand for example), than those lower resolution older tech, if you find those at all in your area or preferred shop.

I'd go for the Full HD, I could get a new one for 100 euros in Hungary or even less if I look around more. I doubt if it's significantly more expensive to get in Germany (the OP's country). EU countries are having pretty much the same prices for this stuff.

sure is, which is why i kept asking if he could change his resolution....i 'bought' two monitors last year but both were locked to stupid max res so sent them both back (they didnt give details of this before i bought them..mail order), then i got 2 'square' ones for free from a bloke i knew who was throwing them out...both work fine and have good resolutions.....
