Yep, be more specific, post some examples. Trance is a huge and diverse genre, with loads of differring subgenres and styles.

For example classic trance basses were very simple back in the days, simple offbeat.

Here's a tutorial from Airbase, where he's building a track from scratch. He has many other tutorials worthy to look at.

I'd say layering is a key to the task. To create overcomplicated basses which were trendy in recent year. Also electroish sounds were used heavily for these basses.

You may wonder it would be more artistic to dictate, invent trends instead of following them. Experiment, experiment, experiment! Trials and errors may lead you to much interesting results than perfectly following trendy suits.

Also it may happen, when you'll finally master recent years' trendy bass sound, it'll get out of date, and a new one appears.

Layering basses might be a bit of over-complicating for someone just starting out. He should start with one, but a good one.

Aside from the patterns and fx you could shoot for getting atleast some decent vsti's, for instance try
1. Trillian
2. Nwbass
3. Genobazz
4. Dune
5. audio realism bassline
6. Massive
7. vb-1
8.nexus
9.Elekrax
List goes on and On

Not to mention Toxic has some very good basses, especially for version III. You can try tweakin of the unison voices and pan spread, distortion, filter attack envelope,, etc. I have many great sounding original presets , specially for goa type if anyone is interested..
