Hi all!
A little higher in the comment I made a digression about automation ... I want to develop this theme (with your permission!).
I think that it is necessary to reduce the scope of the question of automation: automation of the sample is not fatal. I think that when people talk about automation in the Orion program, all have a view of the automation playlist? Is not it?
Leaving aside all your favorite automation gum, what everyone wants to see in parameter automation program Orion? Interface features? Functionality of automation? Originality? Innovation? Convenience? Or something else?
I do not know was whether the descriptive user comments about the vision of this issue, or were simply wishes ... I still suggest everyone to reflect on the topic. Describe, or do the circuits, etc.
I apologize to the creators of the program for this Orion unauthorized initiative. If I go beyond what is permitted simply delete the comment.
I'll try to describe what I take from the automation program Orion, and that could be added (without much change!)
Under the playlist I had previously set up an event editor...
select a track by pressing the left button, you will then need to press the right button and select the editors of events (that's a fact!).
there is a variant: select a track by pressing the left button (one time), and you press only hot key (for example "E"). Appears in the bottom of the defaul customized events editor selected track.
... and most importantly: On the track redactor displays the name, color, space for editing, and two buttons: "Tools" and "Parametrs"
"Tools" - the familiar editing tools. But the "Options", are divided into several categories: the parameters of the mixer, oscillator parameter has (it can also be categorized).
Incidentally, all the editing appear in the playlist on the tracks but is static...
I apologize if i argue as Deletant. But I'm interested.
Thank you.

nah, it was a bad idea patched on in a hurry. Its quite clear what everyone wants regarding automation but for whatever reasons they are reluctant to do it. Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Re: Clips/ session view like Ableton(On the night ...)
I remember a fairy tale or legend which was about a character who was involved collecting stamps. Then one day he added to his collection the stamps it that which was the last ever to exist in the world ... he lost interest in everything, he was unhappy - he had nothing more to wished... ...maybe automation in program Orion, this is the very latest "thing" which may make us frustrated, because she can not give that which we expect from it ... Look after all already have to all... and even if not, let there always slightly, but something is missing ... And if we will gain what we are waiting, let all the same it will not last desire ... Thank you. Do not twist the handle, if you do not know why you need it!

I think this is good idea for Event Editors...
When we work a complex project, it's became a difficult situation.Because If we open many Even Editor, can't understand which Even Editor we work. we know, have no Even Editor Name.... Sorry my English language...
Re: Clips/ session view like Ableton'I am happy for Rich to decide what Orion needs'
so bones, why do you feel compelled to shout down every single idea that doesnt benefit your ways of working??
Re: Clips/ session view like Ableton'I find doing arrangements with Ableton very painful - but is great for the djing crowd. I find arrangements with Orion super easy'
Exactly why I'd want to continue using Orion - the intuitive ways of working (in most areas) are what I love. IMO the new wave of midi controllers are really bringing a new angle to the music production market I just bought a Novation Launchpad, which goes perfectly with Ableton by design It's fantastic for what I want Going forward, I feel Orion could end up stuck in no-man's land between pattern-based and song-based. Surely half the point of the pattern-based workflow is that parts of a composition are in neat packaged 'clips' This is why I think a new 'live window' in Orion where the patterns or audio chunks can be set in a grid and triggered by APC/Maschine-like controllers would be great! Ableton also gives me other things on my wishlist: - drag'n'drop of audio files - timestretch - mp3 import Fwiw, I think the mixing desk of Orion is SO much better - very easy to see what you're doing with effects etc. Ableton no longer even has 3 band EQ set up for each track. You have to add plug-ins for each track you want to EQ.
Re: Clips/ session view like Ableton
It's right. Also help Studio One. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9988 But Orion is my favorite DAW ever.
Re: Clips/ session view like Ableton
Having discovered/now understand Ableton Live recently, I see this it a MUCH more efficient method of track creation (especially with EDM). The ability to program patterns then (on the fly) fire them and have the software record the fired patterns on the playlist is brilliant. The main parts from Live! that Orion needs to get a similar programming feel are a time synced pattern firing/queuing mechanism and support for devices such as the launchpad and APC20/40 for controlling pattern firing. Orion already has the basic pattern system itself and the pattern bank enabled magnificently (per instrument, just like in Live). So Orion is already veeeeryy close to supporting this method of working! It just needs the pattern firing synced/queued to tempo (and of course recordable on the fly to the playlist) and the ability to assign patterns to pads and Orion is there. This and automation and you have a powerhouse alternative to Live and bitwig studio should it ever be released. Yeah neither is an easy thing as the audio engine would have to incorporate this as well as the playlist would have to be overhauled to accept recording in this nature. But wow.. the basic concept is and has been there.. looongg before Ableton live ever was developed. Last edited by El_Capitan on Sat Nov 17, 2012 6:50 pm, edited 1 time in total.
