hey folks,
I just purchased ableton and an akai apc40.
i have owned orion for several years,
this year I released my latest album
created totally in orion.
i now wish to export my patterns from orion
and import them into ableton.
a work around i have at the moment is to set
up a song arrangement where I have all instruments
set at A1 then on the next bar A2 etc. That way I
can set the play head in song mode, which sets all my patterns.
Then I switch to pattern mode and export, then I go back and
do it agin for A2 etc.
its all rather monotonous. I dont want to give up orion for song
making and creative work, but I need an easier way to layup
my orion work in ableton ready for triggering.
So big on my wish list is a export all patterns option.
If anyone knows an easier way to achieve this pls let me know.

Re: Orion Ableton APC40 Workflowi use this method to export my patttern :
i clear the playlist (to clear the previous arrangement) i set every pattern successivly for each instrument instrument1 A1 A2 A3 ... instrument2 A1 ... instrument3 A1 A2 A3 A4 ... instrument4 A1 A2 ... ... i import those stems into ableton and duplicate the clip to match the number of pattern of this stem and set the start and end loop marker's clip accordingly to the pattern. if you don't understand what i am describing i will post a picture later Yamaha CS-30, Roland SH-1, Roland MKS70, Focusrite Scarlett 18i6, Yamaha FS1R, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Novation Remote 37SL, Korg Legacy, Alesis M1Active 520, Novation Launchpad Pro, Push2, Intel i7-7700HQ
Re: Orion Ableton APC40 Workflowheya chris,
it seems similar to what I am doing, but you have export all intruments set to A1 then do it again with all A2 etc I can have up to 18 patterns in an instrument, which means I have to export 18 times. and I end up with all the empty patterns exporting as well. It would be great if u could post some screenshots to help me make my workflow easier. FTR ________________________________

Re: Orion Ableton APC40 Workflowyou don't get it
i export each instrument separately into stem composed of their used pattern (not empty) i made an example with all generator in orion 7.62 having 18 pattern each of 1 measure then you drag and drop the 12 instruments stems then duplicate the clip 18 times and edit their start and end loop marker i thinks it's faster to edit the marker than to export 12*18=216 patterns You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. Yamaha CS-30, Roland SH-1, Roland MKS70, Focusrite Scarlett 18i6, Yamaha FS1R, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Novation Remote 37SL, Korg Legacy, Alesis M1Active 520, Novation Launchpad Pro, Push2, Intel i7-7700HQ
Re: Orion Ableton APC40 WorkflowI have gone back and reread your post...
it works best if all the patterns in orion are the same length? cheers FTR ** I put this in wishlist section, coz it would be great if with one click all used patterns from all instruments could be exported (with the pattern number as a suffix) from Orion. ________________________________

Re: Orion Ableton APC40 Workflow
no, it does not matter, just set the loop's length in ableton to the pattern's length in orion Yamaha CS-30, Roland SH-1, Roland MKS70, Focusrite Scarlett 18i6, Yamaha FS1R, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Novation Remote 37SL, Korg Legacy, Alesis M1Active 520, Novation Launchpad Pro, Push2, Intel i7-7700HQ
Re: Orion Ableton APC40 WorkflowI am a bit unsteady when it comes to custom midi mapping in orion,
but has any one had success mapping the APC 40 in any way ? FTR ________________________________

Re: Orion Ableton APC40 WorkflowI don't exactly get what you mean, but you probably face the same problem as i did with my novation controller. As i read at the apc website you can not edit the midi messages on the APC so you get what you get. You should be able to assign the controls sending midi control messages like faders and knobs via Orion's MIDI learn, but the feedback won't work (i think there is only one way communication in this case) and no banking (meaning is you have only so many controls you physically have). I suspect the pads are sending note messages so no reassigning there, only usefull as a keyboard on a "normal" controller.
Cheers
Re: Orion Ableton APC40 WorkflowThe news that Orion is undergoing a facelift is excellent news. After a year of learning Ableton workflow, I keep going back to Orion. I dont know much about midi mapping, but it would be great if I could trigger my patterns in Orion directly using the APC-40.

Re: Orion Ableton APC40 WorkflowI posted something similar to the wishlist thread. I very often have all 64 patterns filled so it would be extremely time saving if there was an option to add all patterns to playlist option. But the trick is how many bars do I want orion to fill out in the playlist for each pattern. Should there be spaces in between each group of patterns, etc. Its common to have groups of 8 bars per pattern, ie either 8, 16, or 32. Would be nice if there were at least 4 bars of space in between.
From there it would be an easy step to stream to wave the channels and I could split the audio myself later to seperate the patterns, So i don't have to manually stream each pattern for how many bars in playlist.
The above would also be useful and something I requested long long ago. I think both options should be available. While the above is good for streaming, I would also like a faster method to put all my patterns into the playlist without manually doing it myself for when I am working on laying out tracks in Orion.
