i just watched a tutorial video from a producer using logic or some other DAW (didnt really recognize it as all i use is orion - lol)
he took 2 kick drum samples put them on 2 AUDIO TRACKS, chopped the tail off of one kick drum, chopped the attack off the 2nd kick drum, and used a crossfade to blend the 2 remaining pieces together perfectly and seamlessly with no clicks.
crossfade meaning he put a fade out on the attack kick sample, and a fade in on the tail kick sample.
he was able to zoom WAY in (even more than i can currently zoom in with orion) to line up the phase of the 2 samples as well.
i want to be able to do this!
i do not want to have to learn a new DAW - orion is it for me.
i'm sure there are work intensive detailed "work-around" ways to achieve similar results in orion, but i don't think it would be easy and i would want to VISUALIZE the wavforms to line up the phase of the 2 sounds like i saw in this video.
sorry, the video is not on youtube, or i would include a link...
any chance of seeing something like this in a future update?
thanks for reading,

Re: audio track cut and crossfadeYou can do this 'in' Orion if you have set your audio editor as default. Load the samples in Orion, open in editor, close, edited samples are now in the audio track
Its a workaround, but a simple one. Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Re: audio track cut and crossfadeYou, me, and many others, JB... but...
Just the same as it would apply for this topic, for that to happen, there would have to be some very fundamental changes inside Orion, and that's something Rich hasn't expressed a great interest in dealing with so far, apart from an Automation Tracks attempt, which has been removed. To this day, I still say that Acid has a pretty good idea and way of dealing with envelopes - be it manually adding or recording automations - and it's very simple to use. That sort of thing could work with Orion as well. Vegas has implemented fades (in-out) in the similar matter as well, but they're constantly present, so you'd just have to drag the beginning or end to a certain measure (in seconds:frames) and right-clicking bring up curvature options for fading - makes fading between videos (and audio) much easier. But personally, I think Acid's approach would be far better for Orion, and this video on YT shows just how easy they are. Here are 2 posts I did on the Beta forum back in 2010 when we were discussing it over there for potential implementations...

Re: audio track cut and crossfade
thanks for the reply! this would be the exact same thing as if i individually opened both samples in soundforge, edited them and then loaded them into orion after editing? JUNEBUG http://www.Electronisounds.com (my samples and loops website)

Re: audio track cut and crossfadeThis is something I would definitely do in an audio editor, not in Orion. You should have a look at Ocen Audio, it's free and whilst it is fairly basic (no VST support), it seems to be very well crafted and does a good job. I have SoundForge but find myself using Ocen Audio a lot more because it's quick and easy. http://www.ocenaudio.com.br/en/whatis

Re: audio track cut and crossfade
yes, but orion opens SF via the audiotrack (kinda) its handy for simple tasks. Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Re: audio track cut and crossfade
Thanks for the heads up, I've never heard of oceandio. But WTF is going on with it's installer ? I installed it on my WinXp internet machine and the installer appeared to be scanning my whole harddrive. Installation took five minutes before I finally shut it down from the task manager. Seems a little suspicious.......
Re: audio track cut and crossfadeNever had a problem installing it. It has VST support now BTW.
Re: audio track cut and crossfadeI uninstalled it and reinstalled it in it's default location and everything went fine.......only took 30 seconds. I did get a firewall warning but chose to keep it blocked. Yes I noticed it does have VST support now........
Re: audio track cut and crossfadeI'm with SF, but will definitely check this one out.

Re: audio track cut and crossfadethanks for the tip re: ocean audio, but what i'm really needing to do is combine/blend 2 samples into one, being able to move them around to line up the phase(s) together and then render into one sample.
i have a demo version of ableton that came free with something i bought a while ago, can't even remember what exactly, might check into doing this with it.... UGH! JUNEBUG http://www.Electronisounds.com (my samples and loops website)

Re: audio track cut and crossfadeCheck out Reaper for these types of tasks, its forte is audio editing/sequencing
(it has extensive crossfade support). And it has a fully functional demo.

Re: audio track cut and crossfadeHe mentioned he's checking out Ableton Live lite. So I guess it's not the case after all. But thanks for your concern pal.
