Sample browser

Postby walker » Fri Aug 08, 2014 8:49 am

Hi!

It would be great to be able to hear the sounds playing when browsing through sound files. For example Before loading samples into a drum module, I want to listen through several sound files and pick one that I like.

I have not used FL for years, but I remember that the sound will automatically play when looking through windows files on the computer, which makes it easier.

All the best,
Anders

Thanks btw!

This is not exactly what you ask, but works for me really good when I need to browse samples with Orion. I use an external tool called Sonicwire Mutant (powerful and free!)... and you can make a full catalog of your samples. With other DAWs you can drag and drop samples directly, with Orion you must copy and paste full path into sampler open file dialog.

Audio Output Settings:
Engine "always running"?
I use it all the time. In tandem with "fit", you can preview the samples pitch-shifted to the correct tempo. I use the tune knob connected to a controller so that I can preview the sample at half-time and double-time (or octaves) as well.

They don't seem to play when I click on the name of the sample... Anyways, I think I go for an external browser to run aside with Orion. Thanks for your replies!

That sounds very advanced, so I will see if I manage to do it. Very clever! :) Thanks for the tip.

Walker,

Just make sure that "always running" is checked in the audio output settings.

Here is a link to a thread where I describe the process in detail:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10071&hilit=+fit

Lately, I find that I have to set the polyphony to 1 to not get clicks when using cut. This was fixed once, but is back.
I find it redundant to have to do both. Cut should cut no matter what the polyphony. If you have any questions about what I'm talking about, feel free to ask.
