I don't have access to the Beta Forum from this computer so I can't check to see if the subject was ever brought up before.

I won't be home until tomorrow and I'll check then to be sure but I think Alchemy supports Poly AT and maybe Predator ?

It may very well not be practical in DUNE because of the multi-voice architecture. Maybe Rich or Marcin will comment.

Exactly, 8 layers is a lot.....

The main problem would be MIDI choke, wouldn't it? Probably works fine with an iPad since the internal rate wouldn't be limited to MIDI specs, but as soon as you hit a MIDI cable then there would be problems.

A man going to midlife crisis can dream.... :) I understand if that's not needed or wanted for a lot of people and Dune 2 is a complex beast under the hood. I'm known for asking crazy things like endless LFO, XY pads with endless options, native remote apps and a lot other things. Sometimes just pure sound quality is not the best thing for inspiration  But how i said in an older post, i voted at musicradar Dune 2 as my favourite synth because it's my current Nr.1 But i'm sure that "touch" in general has a big future since it is so much more fun to edit things with it compared to mouse/trackpad and keyboard.
So sorry for this stupid thread.... will try to make the best out of it.

You can change Note On Velocity after you hit the note ? :?

Anyway do your iPad apps send PolyAT by way of USB so you can control a VSTi with them ?

Again I'm not against PolyAT in DUNE 2 but until we hear from Rich or Marcin that it's possible with D2's architecture and something they are interested in adding we're kind of stuck in a loop.......

You can change VOLUME, but not velocity with AT.

There is such a thing as note off velocity, but I don't think that is the same as AT.

Examples of different uses of polyphonic aftertouch:

It's really not a silly request. LOTS of people use it... just maybe not everyone here. And since it's on older synthesizers, it's not really a question of IF someone can control it, but WHO can. Dune 2 could definitely benefit from it.

None of those synth have an 8 layer architecture.

You completely missed the point, Kriminal.

My purpose was not to give a comparison of those synths to Dune2. but to give examples of how to use polyphonic aftertouch, and how many people use it.

Granted, Dune2 does have 8 layers that you can access, but polyphonic aftertouch would give the ability to access each layer per key. Or for more practical uses... holding a 2 handed chord and having one hand effect a the P.A. connected to a filter cutoff. Therefore you have 2 movements of 1 sound simultaneously depending on your playing style.

Your next question of course... is why would one want to do that? Well...my answer would also be why would one need 8 layers for a synth? It's about making Dune2 more flexible for a variety of uses... whether or not that fits for people here on the Synapse forum, but also for more users who don't use this forum AND like Dune2 as well. :cowboy:

Im well aware of what it is and how its used. My point is, again, IMO Dune2 is too complex for this. If its tech possible, It would likely cripple the cpu.
