Hey-oh guys and girls...
I've been using a freeware version of Orion (from Computer Music I think)
just about forever... maybe 10 years or so and I was hoping to get/buy an old version
I think maybe version 4 that would be compatible with my midi only version...
(and my hundreds of songs)
For higher sample rate (96k/24 bit) and live audio in...
Is such a thing possible? Thanx in advance and Happy New Year

You can put a "Wanted to Buy" post in the marketplace on sites like http://www.kvraudio.com

I don't remember there ever being a "freeware" version of Orion.

I came on board Orion somewhere around 2000-2001 but don't remember a CM version.

At any rate it's almost certain that newer versions of Orion will not open projects from that version and finding someone who has version 4 or earlier for sale will be a tall order and there's no guarantee they'll open those projects either but good luck. I doubt you'll find it here.

The backwards compatibility is rather good as far as I remember, there might be some edge cases though. I have faint recall of such old CM version, never used myself though. Directly from 4 to latest might cause some issues, but if using intermediate version, you might have some better luck. That is, resave files with version 5/6 before jumping to later version. Sometimes it might be good to restart Orion in between due some small issues in the loader if loading some very old ones. You also should note that some instruments/effects might have changed and are not 1:1 with the later versions.

The OP hasn't been back here since his last post in January so I don't know if he's still looking for a solution or not. :?

Anything up to 7.6 will load old songs (old songs need to be resaved in 7.6 to work in 8xx versions)

There was a free version of Orion once, Orion Basic I think, around the time there were 3 versions (Orion, Pro, Platinum) and the basic version was dropped.
