I love Orion, really, I do. There are just some minor tweaks I would kill for.
Usability :
In the Mixer Control. I would love to be able to left click on any given knob/slider and then have that knob somewhat highlighted (indicating its activated) so i can adjust the knobs level either with the cursorkeys and/or with the mousewheel.
I dont have any external controler hardware, so i have to adjust the levels with the mouse alone. And frankly, that sucks. Its such a tedious task adjusting the eq / volume levels on the mixing console like this.
Cheers

Mousewheel/cursorkey control for mixer knobsso you want to left click on the knob, using your mouse, but you dont want to use your mouse to actually move the knob?
amazingly ridiculous, well done Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM
250GB SSD - 1TB HDD | M-Audio Oxygen 25 V
Mousewheel/cursorkey control for mixer knobsdon't forget to hold the legt SHIFT button to get a more precise mouse movement, e.g. EQ buttons. This works really well. Unfortunately, not for the volume fader.

I don't have anything else either to work with except my mouse, but I don't see it as a tedious task to do anything with it. Works quite well here, and it's a lot faster. As for the rest, I agree with Krim. You have to click anyway, migth as well move the slider. The stepping wich would occur with moving the slider with a mouse wheel or arrow keys on your keyboard would be the same, cause of the non-linear (logarithmic) nature of it, as I was being told. So, mouse movement will be far faster than arrow keys and/or mouse wheel simply because you can just click anywhere on the slider path, and the slider will go there, where in the favor of the other two, you will have the starting point and will move slower. My advice, if it counts for anything: get a mouse with higher precision. I have a 1000dpi laser mouse, and it works like a charm. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Mousewheel/cursorkey control for mixer knobsthat would be qite useful, but let me offer the other way F1, F2...F12 - call the generator, then up - down (alt up, shift up or cntrl up, down) to increase/decrease volume. Mixer doesn`t work like vst application, so once linked to phisycal knob it makes impossible to link the same knob to any virtual parameter. This way you need extra midi controller to manipulate mixer.
Mousewheel/cursorkey control for mixer knobsI've got more controllers than one could shake a stick at. And a mouse and wee USB keyboard is all I need now. Sometimes irksome, but then so is sitting at a real mixer trying to make fine adjustments while someones patting you on the back spilling coffee on the board and saying 'That's it! No - too much now! What's wrong with those Hi Hats? Can you turn the voice up? You wanna get a pizza?'
Amazingly ridiculous, well done - Krim, you have such a way! :superlol:

Funny, really. But seriously, you seem to have misunderstood me. Adjusting the sliders only by moving the mouse up/down while the left mousebutton is pressed gives me very poor precision. I constantly find myself trying to move the mouse ever so gently, only to move the slider up/down a tick or two, but insted the slider moves way to far. Actually this concerns the volume sliders mostly. the EQ's i can live with the way it is now. But adjusting volume levels is a bitch. To me atleast. I was not aware of that (yeah, RTFM) That would ease the pain a little. But if it wont work on the volume sliders, meh.
Mousewheel/cursorkey control for mixer knobsI hear you Stainless. But I for one usually get a 'rough gauge' when automating faders and all with the mouse. It's fairly easy to go into Events right after and tidy things up with a snap line and/or scale it by a small amount if it was too loud or quite durning recording. If you were playing live trying to do this - I could understand. But if that's the case, I would suggest get one of these Tascam USB Mixers or the like and control Orion's mixer via that?

Would vote for this. I know vsti's that have this feature and it is of some relieve for my RSI-plagued hands.
Mousewheel/cursorkey control for mixer knobsCubase lets you hover over a knob and use the mouse wheel for making adjustments without having to click. Maybe implementing something like that would help you.
Mousewheel/cursorkey control for mixer knobsOrion 8 has mousewheel-controlled precision faders, allowing you to adjust volume controls on both the mixer and master section with approximately 0.1 dB of accuracy.

Mousewheel/cursorkey control for mixer knobsYou're a sick man Rich! Absolutely 'SICK!' :schock:
So for each click of my mousewheel, I'm getting .1db of adjustment? No more Scaling by 99 or 101, more more 'Oh well, I guess 16.4 will just have to be'...? Your sickness is going to make a maniac out of me yet Rich! :superlol:

That's what I asked for a long time ago. And they told me it's impossible cause of the non-linear curve (or something) yaaaay... hehe Last edited by HYPNAGOGIA on Fri Jan 23, 2009 11:00 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Mousewheel/cursorkey control for mixer knobsI don't use dB for faders, because I find it reacts too quickly in the top range of the fader, and neither linear, which reacts too slowly. I use something in between the two extremes, to get an optimal 'feel'. Maybe I'll make the mousewheel use dB steps, for now it's just the precision which is very high, it's not counting in dB internally. But it doesn't really matter, as the precision is higher than 0.1dB, you can adjust in 0.1dB steps.
Btw, I just checked how Cubase 4 does it, it seems to use the exact same scaling as Orion. It also does not use dB internally, as you can see when you shift-mousewheel click, the jumps are not constant but something like 0.07, 0.08 dB etc. So, you get the exact same behavior as in Cubase 4, which you asked for anyways Shift+MW ~ 0.1dB (higher precision in the top range, slightly less at the bottom) MW ~ 0.5dB Admin - Synapse Audio Software
