If your hand has to traverse a long one then yes.
inserting empty space in the playlistanyways if you spend a lot of time on the comp and hold the mouse in a particular fashion, the your wrists ache, its simple.

Lasso and drag is acceptable, but I don't think it's the quickest or easiest, not if you want to push many blocks. But I've probably said all I can, so it's up to the developers now. Last edited by JohnDX on Wed Jan 28, 2009 12:15 pm, edited 1 time in total.

inserting empty space in the playlistMy job has been programming and image processing for 7 years now. I work almost exclusively at the computer. My right hand is either at the keyboard or on the mouse. I go home, work a bit more there crack open Orion and again use the mouse. I've never had RSI in all those years.
inserting empty space in the playlistthats strange, cause i have been at it too for 7 years (graphics and computer vision). anyways all humans are not made the same way. just cause you have no problem doesn't mean others wont. for me i dont get any fatigue with the keyboard, its only when i drag the mouse. and that again is because of my fingertip style of mouse gripping

I'm aware of that. The things is, if you'd made sure you we're doing everything ergonomically, you wouldn't have the problem. I'm aware of how bad the problem is, I know a few people who have it. I can also see those whoa re going to get it. Try telling them that they should change their ways and they say "but that's the way I've always used a mouse and I've never had a problem". Anyway, sorry to hear that you have RSI. What exactly are you doing in graphics and computer vision and where?
inserting empty space in the playlistJust to go completely off topic .. why not use a trackball instead of a mouse ?
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_ ... 6&cl=US,EN Been using this for years, absolutely no strain, fatigue or pain in neither wrist, elbow nor arm. Takes about one day to get used to, then you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.
inserting empty space in the playlistIt's the only exercise I get now. My right arm looks like Popeye's!
inserting empty space in the playlistI hate track-balls, the process is too disconnected. i.e. When I move my hand, the cursor moves feels right, when spin this ball, the cursor moves is less intuitive. My travel mouse has a trackball in place of a scroll-wheel and can function as either but I've never even tried to use it in trackball mode.

inserting empty space in the playlistCarrying on the off topic bit, I used to get bad wrists having my arm on the desk with a mouse, I have a board (used to use a hardback book, heh) now with a mat on I use on my lap and I haven't had wrist problems since.
inserting empty space in the playlistSteven, try Olive Oil - it works for me
inserting empty space in the playlistOddly though, for the little graphic work I've done - I like a track ball for cutting, positioning, and stuff like that. Hate using a mouse for touching up pictures.
But trackball with Orion, and other other non-graphic/picture app would just seem way to foriegn to me at this point. Go figure.
inserting empty space in the playlistI use a trackball and I like it, it's easier on my wrist and arm. In fact, I have a trackball on each side of the keyboard and I switch between them. The one on the right side is placed right above the number pad (the keys are removed) so that the ordinary keys are right in front of me and the trackball not too far to the right (which would strain the arm more).
The precision isn't as good though, so if you're doing graphics or playing games (which I don't) it may not be a good choice. There are also really good keyboards, like the ones from Kinesis, but they're also pretty expensive. I settled with a semi-good MS Natural. [Nothing]
inserting empty space in the playlistI think a lot of people woefully underestimate the value of the right keyboard and mouse. In my job, most people prefer to use a tablet because it makes them feel more like real artists. A tablet is fine for drawing but useless for most other things, so I prefer to use a mouse. If you need ot be precise, you need a really good mouse. my mouse-pad alone cost more than most people's mouse and I buy a mouse or two a year, searching for the perfect one. Keyboards are less important to me but there are definitely good and bad ones and I won;t hesitate to spend decent money on one that feels right. My current keyboard at home cost me $95 Canadian [got it in Montreal a bit over a year ago] and it is really nice, with a big, padded palm-rest and good key action. My current favourite mouse is this:
At work I use this cheap-arse cordless keyboard/mouse combo that it actually really good, just not as portable as I would like, and it needs a PS/2 connector. Dell G7 (Hexa-Core i7)|Cubase Pro 10||Analog Keys|Ultranova|MicroMonsta|Uno|Skulpt|Craft Synth 2.0|
