Bones - I'm guessing you dont see Orion as playlist-centric because like all of us, you grew up with it being that way.
However, from looking at other sequencers that are playlist-centric, I guess I'm therefore asking whether Orion would be better if it was?
I just think the way Acid handles it seems very clear and intuitive.
envelopes over tracks for parameter controlModerators: Christophe, Mark envelopes over tracks for parameter controlNo, it would not. The reason I use Orion and not any other sequencer is because it is mixer-centric, like a real recording studio. The Playlist is important for writing and arranging but to produce the best sound, you need a really good mixer, not some bolt-on, token effort consigned either to a tiny part of a track or to some background window somewhere.

envelopes over tracks for parameter controlReally glad to here about the copying of VST parameter feature, that sounds great. I am not sure if I mentioned it before, but I would also really like to see a more sophiscated curve drawing tool than the LFO-thingy, something similar to a curve tool in an art program. Bezier curves are, I believe, often used for such tools. The Anamark synth has one for drawing envelope curves, and I would love to see that feature in Orion for VST parameter editing.
envelopes over tracks for parameter controlEven with the Pattern Envelope coming out, I'm with you Borion. Just some of those 'balloon curves' available like in MS Paint. Sharp knee, smooth knee, triangle, square, star shape... Okay, maybe not that.
But still would love a copy/paste portions in the Event window. Just to draw or sculpt that one or two beautiful curved peak with pencil and/or Smooth function. Copy and paste it for 2, copy and paste those for 4, then 8. THEN paste the lot into a Pattern Envelope. But yeah, Event Editor and Mixer will ALWAYS be my thng with OP.
envelopes over tracks for parameter controlI would appreciate also some LFO generator that can be send for automation realtime recording.
LFO with sync, amp, rate... then it can draw the curve for you and be modulated in realtime for recording. I don't know if such event generator module would be ez to code... dosen't sound that much... but its always the same timeeating question Orion 8, Live 8Le, Cubase 4 LE, Cantana, APC40, UC16, Fostex PM1MKII, Q9550, 4G0, 1,5T, 22"+15"

envelopes over tracks for parameter controlthat's pretty cool! i don't have that in 7.62.. so i assume we will get this in Orion 8?
envelopes over tracks for parameter controlYeah T, I'm pretty stoked about that feature! Didn't notice the 'curvature' inclusion as well - so that's another bonus too!
envelopes over tracks for parameter controlwhat does the "curvature" parameter do?
envelopes over tracks for parameter controlIf I understand, it's what Borion was saying here earlier. Kinda puts a 'knee' on the waveforms. So something line a sine would get 'squashed down' to make the curves bow out at maximum curvature. I guess at minimum curvature it would almost look like a sawtooth with a very rounded peak? Or make a square like almost a sine.
Very rare I go for this feature as it's not always noticiable. But in the odd cases and frequencies, it helps. Last edited by Dungeon Studio on Sat Aug 08, 2009 6:21 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Yep
I guess we can all speculate on the ways it works. Hell, I can't describe it with words, but it does some interesting things, especially coupled with the other controls.... take a look at some.... Here's your standard sync'ed sine Here's what Curvature does to it.... (Low and High values): Saw, low and high Curvature values: Square/Pulse, low and high Curvature: You get the idea. It's hard to explain, but you can see it... and hear it. Now, when you pair some of the controls together, you can get pretty interesting stuff.... Sine / no curvature / fade in+out: Sine / high offset / high curvature / fade in+out / high speed: Saw / fade in / high curvature: Square (Pulse) / fade in+out / high speed: Square (Pulse) / low amount / low offset / fade in+out / low curvature / high speed Last edited by HYPNAGOGIA on Sun Aug 09, 2009 12:30 am, edited 1 time in total.

envelopes over tracks for parameter controlLooks cool! I would still like to be able to exactly plot a point to a specific x,y position and do assisted curves between points, but it looks like these new LFO features will permit similar things to be done.
envelopes over tracks for parameter controlIt does look impressive I must admit. And these would be length adjusted in Pattern Control. I take it these are 4 measure displays, so lets say I wanted 2 measures of the 10th display with fade in to repeat. -fade in-fade in- then let it go the full 4 for fade in and out, I could do this?
That would be tres cool indeed!

Similar, yes, I'd say they will give you quite a range of "shapes" you can play with. Plus, you can always use traditional tools (pen, line) to shape them even more to your liking.
Yes, you determine their length just like you do for any other generator, by determining the number of steps. Plus, they can be, like generators now, resized, moved, stretched These are just 16 steps long, but you can do that same for a pattern of 128 steps. Only fades would matter in that case, of course. Not quite sure I understood the example, but I guess you could do that. Put in number of steps, make the automation and then determine where do fades start/stop. I guess you'll have to play with fades a bit to get it for the right length. But perhaps, and in my opinion, it would be more precise with few patterns (especially because of that double fade in on the start of your example )... one length fade in, one for unaffected full automation if you like, and another for fade out, and then just arrange them in the playlist like 1-1-2-3 or something like that... and that's it. awesome omg is there a possibility to expand/compress the lenght of some automation pattern ? ie : you have your automation "drawn" on a 16 bar pattern and you want it on a 32 or an 8 one. Possible ? Orion 8, Live 8Le, Cubase 4 LE, Cantana, APC40, UC16, Fostex PM1MKII, Q9550, 4G0, 1,5T, 22"+15"
