I use it yes. Its kind tricky with all meters on mixers. You ve lost until you understand where is the actual volume of something. I wonder if it is possible with some skin to remove totally the meter from the main mixer?

What ever happened to simple math? As in 'Beats Per MINUTE'? 120BPM divided by 4/4 = 30 measures a minute. Got 120 measures to your song - that's 4 minutes right there. 140BPM = 35 measures a minute x 4 = 4 minutes. 160BPM = 40 measures a min, and so on and so on.
If OP users were under stress to make jingles and radio edits and didn't have the wherewithal to use a good audio editor to master and monitor the length before delivery - I could understand. Or if all synths and effects could only be sync'd manually, maybe? I for one have 'done it all' on Orion, and maybe wished I had SMPTE and/or Time on the measure counter like 3 times. At best, I adjust the BPM to fit the desired time required. At worst, I stretch or squish things in Wavelab to be 'bang on'. CTRL+I really isn't that difficult. If it could just be saved with Song and reopen where I last situated it to carry on my work - what else would a static view in toolbar be able to offer anyone?

We have software for that. It's supposed to do the math so we can be free to compose.
True too. But it's pretty simple for the basics without it. If someones breathing down my neck and saying "What's 100 measures at 113BPM smart guy?" I don't know... 3 minutes and 13 seconds and 26 milliseconds, according to Time View on OP Now can I get back to work.
But to percisely know the time ALL the time... I don't get it?
I think I get it. There are people that need to view the time every now and then, and a simple glance to the toolbar with a TimeView on it is faster than moving your hand from a mouse, in case you don't want to keep twisting your wrist and fingers to hit CTRL+I with one hand, even though it's not that had. And I also think losing the TimeView underneath all the windows and what not when your screen becomes cluttered with them, and hitting CTRL+I every single time you want to see how your song progresses might be frustrating.
Personally, I think the skin can be reworked to accommodate the TimeView, by making the transport buttons smaller just a bit, for example. For one, I have a 17" screen, using 1152x864, and there's room for a TimeView. For someone with 1024x768 I think it could fill the toolbar just to its end, but then I imagine someone with 1900x1400 or something, that toolbar has more than enough of empty space. And if that doesn't work for people who will find it distracting, again, the skin can be reworked to exclude the TimeView. It doesn't have to be a big one, just enough to show the time in it. So, basically, I'm not pro or con for it. It doesn't affect me all that much to worry about it.
I wish I could wear my watch on my ankle, so I'd be less conspicous at meetings to find out how long it's running. Cross my leg, pull my pant cuff back, and none's the wiser. Pulling my jacket and shirt sleeve back is such a hassle and draws attention...

No it doesn't, it stays where you leave it until you close it or open another song. Maybe keeping it persistent between songs would be handy but CTRL+I is hardly backbreaking work, is it?

An ingeniously stupid idea - as Krim would say.
*shrugs*
No benefit or gain for me whatsoever. I won't object if Rich decides to put it there, and I won't whine if he doesn't.

Yes, it doesn't "close", I meant it doesn't stay on top, wich kinda is the same thing when opening another window at full screen.
I'm very much aware of the CTRL+I option, that's what I'm using now. It seems like I'm not the only user who would like a fixed timeview on the screen though.

Now you're just being silly. There is a lot of unused space on the toolbar even at low resolutions as others have already pointed out. Why not use it for something that people want? I don't use time view a lot but having it on the toolbar doesn't offend me at all. Why not use that space instead of it's just being blank?
I'm with Hypna. It's a lot of work for Rich and all the skins that adds unneeded clutter that isn't going to be as visible as a on screen Time View anyways. Just this small little box constantly running adding extra graphic strain on meter precision - which accuracy may or may not matter for some. And for what?
It's like a LCD dashboard mounted clock you buy at a dollar store and place above your car radio to better see the road while you're driving. Then you wind up glance at two time readouts constantly always unsure and suspicious. If people want to keep peering at the toolbar saying "3:58:53 - that can't be right?" and go CTRL+I to verify and say "Son of a gun - it is right"... That to me is the ultimate in silliness.

well, its not is it, cos the time in the toolbar, where it belongs, would replace the CTRL-I one, obviously.

You'd rather peer into a small dashboard LCD clock than have the bigger bolder one come up on screen? If anyone REALLY needs time view - it's going to be someone on stage. And they'd have to peer into a little bar up top because there was extra space available and forego the BIG clock?
That jeopardises OP and it's users pretty savagely I'd say.
