You're just as quilty as the rest of us Tek. You'll look at a clock on the street corner, then check your watch. You look at the clock on your computer, and within 2 minutes you look at the clock on the wall or beside your desk. You see the time right there on CNN, and look up to your cable box or VCR. You might not do it as often as others - but you do do it. We all do. It isn't an analogy, it's a fact!
Again - why is time that important? If synth ADSR's were all time based, I could understand. If OP did 'realtime' Audio Track Time Stretching, I could understand. If Time View was more involved than View->Time from the menu, or CTRL+I - I could understand.
At best, I could see a songwriter reopening a .SFS they were working with the Time View where they left it to remind them, and say 'geez, the chorus doesn't come in till 4:50? Man I must've been trippin balls last night!" Or a live act amongst other bands having 20 minutes on stage tops. Or, as I pointed out to Rich already - have a huge overlay that band members, dancers, backstage crew could see from a distance. Aside from that, it's redundant and just another 'time leash' we'd be staring at after our day jobs, info-screens, TV news channels, and our own personal computers bottom right or upper screen - as the case maybe. And we open Orion to see another clock to show a minimal dance tune running way too long, or the drug and booze fueled epic is only 1:33 - but feels like it's so much longer? If I'm that concerned over time and not about the crap I'm making in it... I would have to seriously think about my creative talent and priorities.

No it's completely irrelevant to the discussion at hand. I don't need to see two or three clocks to know what time it is. You may be OCD enough to hit Ctrl+ I after looking at the toolbar time but I doubt the rest of us would bother
Why are you making such a big drama out of this? Some people want to see the time view on the toolbar and there is empty space on the toolbar. If Rich thinks it's not worth the development time then it won't happen. If you don't need the time view then don't use it, I very rarely use it but don't go all rambling incoherent when someone else makes a simple feature request.

so? who gives a fuck, i dont use any other 'big and pro host', i dont care if they all smell nice and make coffee...i dont use them and i have no interest in what they do or do not have!
for me, its annoying cos it isnt there, its annoying having to open a fucking clock everytime, and for it to fucking disappear as soon as i focus on a synth or the mixer. i dont even look at the fuckin main bar when im working, its just there....you have to be some sort of serious fuckin imbecile to think a clock added to a bar that is already there is going to annoy you waste of fuckin time this place, full of fuckin idiots who havent got a fuckin clue ooooh, i need automation clips cos cubase has them...well fuck off and use cubase then..twats Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

I was replying to that comment of Richard. That would be good for both of us. You can't be angry for me just because I like that idea which will give to you Time at the main toolbar, but it won't be unchangeably constant, so it won't annoy others who wouldn't want to see the time always running there.

Thats just about how I feel every f*cking morning, Krim! Salute. Now just for your info. I am one of those who actually want automation clips for a more rare reason: I will use them a whole f*cking lot! Chill

If it became an either/or situation, I would certainly prefer to keep the current one, as it is easy to read from a distance. By the time I am likely to be interested in the time, I am usually sitting back and listening to the whole thing play through, so a nice, big, easy to read display would be my preference.
... to you. I always have more than enough empty space to find room for the clock in a spot where it won;t get covered up. It's just a matter fo being organised.
I prefer the bigger window we have now [see above], but there is no reason we couldn;t have both if Rich decided to make any change.
What other host is going to do any better in that department? It's like Churchill said about democracy - it's the worst system in the world... except for all the others.
Clock is where it ahs always been but you can get a gadget clock in it's own floating UI [windowless] in a number of styles. Vista's clock is another one of the bug improvements for me. I used to have to run a separate app with all the different time-zones I need for work but Vista allows as many clocks as you like so I have the local time as well as the time in Singaopre, Mumbai and Montreal all available. Anyhoo, I don't see that any Windows clock is going to be of any use to anyone, nor do I see that this issue is worth three pages. We have a clock, it works really well and if you're organised, you can eliminate any of the issues you might have with it. Time ViewI don't mind the time in the tool bar either. I think it's about as effective as a McDonalds Fun Meal toy for a 7 year old... But if that's what the kids want?
But certainly by all means DO NOT remove the large time view! Rich - when you say a SMPTE like read out eats up CPU, won't a onboard constant clock on OP os well - regardless of time display? Probably not a major drain by any means. But could be a tipping factor for someone who used to be able to do 18 tracks with OP, and now can only do 17? That's my big issue in regards to all the extras getting flung on OP, it's always had top notch precision... And lately, I'm not sure if it's OP, the VST's, or both.? But there has been increasing problems with increasing complexities over the years. I'd hate to see 'The straw that broke the camels back' in OP because of a additional 2% CPU eating clock.

krim, ease up. take a break. go play with your kids man. it's not worth it.

Time ViewI wouldn't mind a switchable solution, if it didn't mean maintaining at least 4 skins which is a huge PITA (2x def, 2x classic toolbars), plus all custom skin makers have to adjust too.

Time Viewi will make a suggestion that will break middle ground.
when you do ctrl+T, then the time will appear in the main toolbar, not floating. to get rid of it just to ctrl+T again and it will toggle off. Last edited by suneel on Mon Feb 09, 2009 12:45 pm, edited 1 time in total.
