Hi,
Don't know how automation will look like in 8.0. But one thing that is annoying is that you can moce the automation sequence only to the right by using <>. What about left?
Just have to move an entire pattern block to the left but the automation stays there. Can't reproduce it the same way as the original.

Move AutomationAutomation tracks will allow you to move automation wherever you like, if you are willing to put up with them.

Move AutomationSo far there is not a single thing in it that I would use on anything like a regular basis. A lot of it is very cool, and will make Orion look really good to new users, but it's all marketing stuff rather than being actually useful.

Move AutomationHaving a very different experience here. I find I'm already using Merge, Automation Tracks and a lot of features-in-training extensively.

Move AutomationIf the automation tracks will be like in reason 4, it's an absolute prime feature to have in Orion. I hate the old crappy event editor, especially when I'm automating fx-plugins in the master window. Does this mean that there will automatically be a master track in the playlist aswell?
Move AutomationThere won't be Automation Tracks. Rich dropped them completelly as they introduced more issues than they solved. Automation system and playlist revising is still pending.

Move AutomationJudging by the shear number of times this issue comes up in this forum, my personal opinion is that I think Richard is doing well in revising the current method. If there will be an improvement of the current system or a completely new one will however be exiting to see.
Move AutomationThe AT's are a nice idea, and could be handy to have on board as a option still for a particular track or two. But I certainly didn't like the fact it would become 'the norm' for intrinsic production work. I like the fact that OP has always been based on the 'K.I.S.S.' principle (no, not one of Gene Simmons enterprises!) But sadly the EVT management has been TOO simple. So hopefully Rich can expand it just slightly, and I would definately be pleased. Some things Rich says are easy, a line here, a menu addition there - BOOM, Merge now integrated. Something like EVT modding I would hope could be as easy, but maybe not?
Move AutomationI think the whole 'from the ground up' change of automation can be an incredible push forward in terms of user friendliness. If the current system would be reformed however, I personally think the most important additions would come down to these three features.
- Lasso or marking function with ctrl+c and ctrl+v functionality of copying, pasting and moving automation sequences. - Synchronization between movement of FX automation and patterns, when the latter are moved in the Orion sequencer. - Right and left movement of automation. Then there are of course more things that could be done. But these remain my stepping stones in the current system. If these problems are somehow solved in a different way, then I would probably be as happy.
Move AutomationThere is a trick to right and left movement currently Suecae. But much beter if we could lasso measures 1 & 2, hit DEL and drag the whole chunk to the start. As it stands now, you have to slope from 2 to the start down to 0, delete most of that ramp up to 2. Draw a ramp from start to measure 2from whatever height down to 0 just before 2, then delete that. THEN you should be able to move the EVT chunk left 2 measures to the start. (Supreme PITA, but do-able at least. )

Good for you, you can keep on using 7.62. I promise you I will be using merge and the new automation system EXTENSIVELY and so will many others.
Move AutomationWhy are you quoting him about ATs, and something he said in MAY???
There is no new automation system, at least not yet. Rich put patterns on the effects, so they act as generators now, but there's still no way to put them in a playlist Automation Tracks were great in the regard of moving, placing, copying/pasting and stretching. Their representation in the playlist, however, was quite something else. In a complex project, playlist could get clogged very quickly, it becomes unsynoptical, you could lose track of what's where. So, because of all that, ATs were dropped completelly, and new ways to automate things are still on hold. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Move AutomationI quoted it because that attitude is still there. Not surprising Orion is almost at a stand still development wise. It's getting tiresome. But whatever, I'm in the process of looking for another host anyway. Shame really.

Move AutomationI think your assessment of his attitude isn't wrong, he didn't liked the ATs, but it's irrelevant now, as they don't exist anymore.
And how would you know what's the progress of development? We got betas coming out regulary, we got about 2-4 versions almost every weekend for the past few months. It's far from a standstill, but Rich can't make all that in one day. Last edited by HYPNAGOGIA on Thu Feb 18, 2010 1:32 am, edited 1 time in total.
