Over the last few weeks, I have been privileged to work with some other talented producers, in person. And the question comes up , what sequencer do you use. Every time when I say Orion , I get a blank look, not cubase or Ableton?
But when they see the program, and how we work, they realise how simple and well designed it is.
For example, a trance producer wanted that side chain effect, that ducks the track every time the kick hits. Easy , I said just sidechain the compressor. To do this on Sonar he needed to route the VST compressor to BUS#2 input channel #1, add a send to.........you get the picture.
Am I missing something or is Orion THAT good?

What CAN'T Orion do?I'd agree DEE. I use to wow people in studio's with how I ran things through pedals and synths and patch bays to the desk. Engineers had a fit, and I wasn't sure it would work - but a unque sound or effect did eventually happen. What kept me away from Cubase and others was the fact this couldn't easily be done. It all seemed point specific - your synth, it's effect, the mixer, the bass, it's comp. the mixer, and so on. I'm sure things must've changed since those olden times. But as you say, now it's this BIG procedure.
I'm convinced if The Beatles were just starting out today and wanted to do their Sgt Peppers album - every detail, effect, track could be easily handled in OP with room to spare. (They initially did it on a 4 track reel to reel, with another in tow.) So be it 60's groovy production to mad skillz modern dance stuff... OP is THAT good!
What CAN'T Orion do?It's better than good
Where else can you find: - user friendly pattern sequencing - intuitive interface - good synths - good effects - cool people to hang out with :hihi: SoundCloud ::: Facebook

Indeed!! I remember my early days as a 'producer'. I worked with my dad's stereo magnetophon tape recorder (Philips) and made ping pong overdubbing recordings with it. I was twelve then I guess ... Back then I couldn't even imagine things like Orion virtual studio or other systems which are every day stuff for today's kids. Fostex four track recorder was my second step, Impulse Tracker was the third. And then came Orion, the fulfillment of all my musical desires. I grew up with the music of seventies but Beatles has always been my number one band. My big brother owned Help, The White Album and Magical Mystery Tour LP records. I still love those vinyls. Those records still do sound amazing. George Martin, the fifth beatle, was a real wizard as a producer, to me his work is unbeatable and invincible in a history of music producing. And that all with four track (eight at most) system! huh. :music:
What CAN'T Orion do?I started to take notice of music in he late 70s/early 80s, so Gary Numan/OMD/Krafterk/Depeche Mode and the like. My first 'synth' was a Yamaha home keyboard - a PSS780 IIRC. I loved it. It had a 5-track sequencer with it and was all FM - 2-op!! But....., i didn't progress from that until I came across Orion in a very early incarnation. Sure my head has been turned by other girls, but deep down they aint so pretty or comfortable as my star gal.
What CAN'T Orion do?Get past version 7.9 ? Sorry.............

That's what I find so ironic and kinda cool with OP users. Us 'old guys' starting off on reel to reels and big ol' mono synths and stuff. And new young ones getting it all and more with Orion. I dreamed of getting a Synclavier or Fairlight and being right up there with Wendy Carlos and Vangelis and all. It still floors me what I can do with OP on a laptop for less than 1% of the price of those synths. I gotta admit though, I still look at OP in a 'unserious way'. Sure, I'll work hard to try and make good music on it - but I'm still thinking of a studio and all that. And I'm floored and somewhat embarrased when music fans and some serious music dudes say 'You did all that on a laptop with OP? I thought you got in with EMI or something?' It's a great feeling... But then it was so damn easy with OP! I feel like I hardly did anything? No 18 hour sessions, pizza for the band, hauling out the Orange for a Marshall bin in the mic chamber. Just sitting with OP like Hunter S. Thompson on a Sunday in Aspen with the typewriter.... Never in my dreams would I have thought.

PSS780, mate I had that up till last year!! THe drum pads kept failing, but I learnt a lot of synth stuff with that! Nice memory!

Cool where can I download 7.918 ? :hihi:
What CAN'T Orion do?You didn't said anything about downloading, you said it can't pass version 7.9. I just proved that it did :p

What CAN'T Orion do?Argh Mark and Dee - PSS? Okay, I admit I got a DSR2000 waaaay back for WAY too much. But taugkt me nothing about FM or sequencing et al. Great FM sound, and a fun 5 track sequencer - but strictly for fun and jamming.
So you guys must feel like you've climbed out of a Cessna and onto the Space Shuttle with OP!
What CAN'T Orion do?Well for me, it was my first 'proper' keyboard, back in 88 ,or so I thought. I used to write down my own presets and still have them somewhere! Just checked, you can still buy them on Ebay......
