I`ve wanted this function pretty much from day one in Orion.
The sampler is great, but it would be even better if you could set a loop start and finish point, and then fades on the sample loaded into the sample, so that you could make pads and so on out of samples on a note hold.
Would add great sample manipulation possibilities and it is reasonably standard on samplers.

Loop points in samplerI remember that from the days of FastTracker2... that was fun, and usefull

Loop points in samplerI agree.
with most samples, the autoloop does a great job.. but for some, being able to do it manually would be great.
Loop points in samplerYep, I was really surprised the sampler doesn't have any looping features.
Loop points in sampleryep a must for any serious sampler...
There must some free vst that does it no ? Orion 8, Live 8Le, Cubase 4 LE, Cantana, APC40, UC16, Fostex PM1MKII, Q9550, 4G0, 1,5T, 22"+15"

Loop points in samplerI like to do it manually to fit the samples to my needs and a crossfade looping feature would be great so you dont have clicks and a nice effect.
Loop points in samplerYou need to remember it is not a "sampler" as such, but a sample player. So if it can't sample, then it's hardly surprising it doesn't do other things, either. Not being a real-time thing, I'm not sure how relevant this kind of functionality is. To get seamless loops often requires cross-fades, which is a destructive process, something Orion's Sampler does not do at all currently, so it would either require a lot of coding or be quite limited compared to doing it in an audio editor.
To me it comes down to "horses for courses" and it makes sense for Orion to do things that are relevant to a realtime environment and leave other processes that are non-realtime to audio editors. Yes, keymapping is not at all relevant to a realtime environment but I don't see that as a reason to open the flood-gates. Loop points in samplerMany cheap and free 'sample players' do offer Start and End settings. OP's already got 'Start' as it is, so it would be just a matter of adding a 'End' knob as well. I agree, it wouldn't be the most prudent way of getting quality loops from. But in performance effects with a particular sample, say an extract from a vocal track - i could see it's use. Again, there's lots of samplers that can do this already, and effects that act the same. But a End control on OP's sampler could save on extra inserts and all for sure.
Loop points in samplerI believe you mean there would be two new knobs, not one. You would need a 'start loop' knob (different from the start point of the entire sample), and an 'end loop' knob (as mentioned before). Personally, I think it's a great idea. However, it might be a lot easier to have it graphically represented as well. If there were a toggle mode in the slicer screen, then the slicer screen could serve a dual function. When in slice mode, it slices; when it loop mode, it loops.
Loop points in samplerNot sure if you have an audio editor but I have an old version of cool edit pro that allowed me to add loop points to a wav file. Orion's sampler is capable of looping once you have added these loop points to a wav file(s).

Loop points in samplerI think just a End knob, and a 'Loop' engage somewhere on the face. It would allow the user the ability to not only trim Start points as we currently do, but the end of a sample as well. And if one wanted to make a nutty loop, just click on 'Loop S+E' or whatever. And of course, knobs and engage would be fully automatible. It still would be fairly crude, but one could do the ol' vocal sample trick of 'I want to sex you b-b-b-ba-baby-baby' and all that.
Loop points in samplerSounds like a good thing to implement. I remember Roni Size used a lot of bidi or ping pong loops in his earlier work, which is a neat effect - I have used with my tracker of choise before. Anyway, looping is definetly a nice addition.
Loop points in samplerIt wouldn't be bad for OP's sampler I think. Newbies could get their feet wet, and 'glitchers' could have a field day. As much as I like my Smart Electronix stuff and all, it's a pain sometimes when I just need that one chessy effect-fect-fect-fect-fect.
Loop points in sampler
I'm not really following. From what I've seen with this feature in other samples players, there is a loop engage at some point. The loop doesn't start at the sample start point. Am I missing something? Sorry.
Loop points in samplerThere's so many different types of samplers and sample manglers, it's me that's confusing things for OP's sampler. You're right Icaro, with the current Start and additional End - you wouldn't neccessarily be able to do that. OP Sampler would need quite a menu of Loop options like Loop Sample + S&E, triggering the original sample beggining point and looping once End point is detected to where Start point is detected. Loop S&E, like you're refering too. Loop Sample + S - the original beginning to the Start point. Loop End + Sample - sarting from the End point and the remainder of the sample. And so on.
There's some freebies out there that do this quite well. Then of course Roland and Yamaha hardware. More a 'phrase sampling' feature than a generic Sampler thing. My bad! :shame:
