what do you think about the idea of multiple song playlists for v8?
- why because i can try difference arrangements without messing with the automation or the pattern seq. like when i make a song, after a while i feel i want this particular set of blocks should to go earlier and move some other blocks here and there. but i avoid as far as possible do this because i am afraid it will mess up the automation. the option select drag mixer/master channel on/off can be set, but is prone to errors. sometimes you want the same automation on the target bars after a move, but it messes up the whole setting, before and after that region. i am sure you must have experienced this. this sets a caution when moving blocks here and there when your mix is taken shape.
- also i can compare one arrangement to another and improve upon it without any limitations. this would give sort of another angle at your song.

V8 multiple song playlists? The Automation Tracks will eliminate your whole automation move problem, so there won't be any fear to move anything, as they're confined within a pattern block. If you mess up, simply put them back where they were. The only "problem" that remains about them at this point is that as your work progresses, more and more automations are added, and they tend to clutter the playlist, so some solution is yet to be found for that. That, and the possibility to record events in them.

V8 multiple song playlists? That would require using automation tracks for everything, and that would be absurd.
V8 multiple song playlists?AT's aren't finished yet AFAIK. Rich was talking about some way of collapsing them in the Playlist, so I imagine he could do that in a way that would allow them to move around with the arrangement, without having to move them all individually. Even without that, it is no more effort to move 20 channels than it is to move one.
But the simplest solution to this specific problem is simply to do an incremental save, so that you aren't overwriting a version you are already happy with. It's crazy to think that you'd need to do a whole heap of coding just to achieve exactly the same result - one version one way and another version a different way. Merge will allow you to pick the best from each and save a third version, making it pretty much perfect. If the Automation Tracks get in a state they are meant to be, with all issues/features ironed out, why would using them for everything be absurd? They are intended to deal with automations, and exactly the move/size point makes them perfect for that job. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
V8 multiple song playlists?i Haven't used them, so I shouldn't be so quick to comment..
however, from what I've seen, it seems that using the event editor is a lot more sensible, in most cases, than using automation tracks. making them collapsible takes care of clutter, but they still seem like a lot to manage, if you're doing a lot of automations.
V8 multiple song playlists?thats a workaround not a solution to the problem. sure i am already doing that. but it doesnt solve the problem. i want to play arrangement A and also compare it with arrangement B. i cant be opening 3 save files going back and forth, its not efficient! what is needed is exactly multiple song playlist. each with their own arrangement. you select the current playlist in the cfg button and go about your arrangements. yeah, thats the mainthing i am looking fwd to in v8. but as i said i want to compare 2 arrangements or 3 arrangements in a fast, productive and efficient way. multiple song playlist is the way to go. its not the effort, you missing the point. i use automations in vst/fx holders/mixer...etc etc so a simple copy/move across the bars have unpredictable results. AT are addressing the issue i believe. but i want to listen to 2 or more arrangements in the same sfs. let me also say adding the next arrangement in the end of the first arrangement is messy, and would like to have a fresh playlist to start a new arrangement. V8 multiple song playlists?would you be able to select the playlist number like how you select the midi ch or something like that?
This is an interesting idea. I've had a couple songs that we did a few different mixes of. However, those also usually include some changes to the sounds involved, so I'm not convinced this idea would be too useful for me.
V8 multiple song playlists?its just my suggestion, however its a concept. multiple playlist is not for creating remixes. your better off starting with a new/saved copy of the original. why i want this is to have alternate arrangements of a track. often while i am doing a track i feel the need to rearrange and compare. discard old arrangements and go with the better one. in the process itself you may introduce new sounds, delete old ones....etc think of this as a higher abstraction. at the bottom you have a pattern. then you glue patterns to get a sequence. now sequence+automation = an arrangement. so the next abstraction you want to have multiple arrangements. V8 multiple song playlists?sure if you like to wait for 15 seconds to load another sfs and then render to wav and then go back and load and wait for another 15 seconds and then render to wav and then compare A to B wav and then go back and make the change and then repeat the process again....amazing advice!
