Okay, let me put on my flame retardant suit right quick...
I've got some suggestions concerning the sampler which in turn kind of include the drum machine...
1.) Something I feel is missing from the sampler is a REVERSE button. It's useful. Function should be: if button is pushed, sample starts playing backwards at the point it currently is playing at. If not playing, reverse playback starts from end of sample.
2.) I like the loop slicer. However, I don't like that I have to use a pitch knob to control the slice pitches and it's flakey if I"m working with a pitched sample. 2 solutions exist: a separate mode that looks like a drum sequencer, but notes are written on the bars and you can select the notes per trigger, sort of like the way you choose the patterns in the song editor. OTHER suggestion and more feasable I think is to be able to slice up a loop, then import the slices in a single click into a drum machine, killing the sampler in the process since you can select pitch or drum mode on the drum machine.
3.) Reverse button being usable during song via automation on the drum machine could POSSIBLY take care of issue one, now that I think of it...
4.) When automating start point in the sampler, I generally set it to snap to the grid. BUT something that bugs the shit out of me is that you have to set the point PRIOR to the trigger. The sane person would expect that the setting that's there AT THE TRIGGER is what that trigger will do.
5.) Still wanting numeric feedback on all automation with possibility to hand enter data if need be. Yeah, I'm a control freak. WHAT?!
6.) Tits. Everything's better with tits.
I really don't think these are terribly off the wall requests. However, I do come from a tracker world (and continue to use trackers). I don't know if anyone ever used the palm program Bhajis Loops, but it NEATLY incorporated numerical entry on automation of everything. There was a little ticker box in the corner that showed what your currently edited value is...and also, on the trigger itself, the automation position was there for THAT NOTE.
If a palm pilot program can do it...orion can, too, me thinks!

Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...Not bad suggestions. I believe there is a reverse button in the Layer/Keymap page. But I see what you're after. I'd like to see a 'Velocity Reverse' like the Yamaha SU10. I think OP could go one better, and allow user definition by right clicking the REVERSE button engage on the sampler panel. IE; 'Vel Rev 99-128', or even vice versa - 0-73 Then when one plays lightly, all keymaps and layers are backwards, and playing harder makes them foward. I don't think any soft sampler does that currently (Or hardware FTM?)
Definately agree with DR automation. I've done glitchy stuff by manually triggering the REV or Stretch on certain bars. But then have to record it live to another sampler/DAT and resample it back. I guess other samplers like Smart Electronix stuff is capable - but would be nice to do it easily on OP's DR. Every parameter on every OP synth seems linkable and controlable, a shame that DR is so 'static' in that regard. Also agree on numeric feedback as well. And manual input. Would be great to have say CTRL+ or ALT+Channel Fader, and it leaves the readout visible in the bottom left corner. Then just mouse over to it, click so it's editable in blue highlight, type in 22.5, and Enter. Voila! Pan control, EQ control, you name it. Tits - indeed Number One. The universe can never be too short on tits. How be we adjourn to Rijah 7 post haste... Oh hell, why not just set a course for Earth - Las Vegas. I'm feeling lucky all the way around. Good ideas.
Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...reverse and loop function would be sexy.
Good points though, I think the sampler could do with a touch of modernisation.
Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...hey hseiken,
didn't realise you were an orion user, loved your latest track in the kvr music cafe !
Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...6) Always good. And preferably free. Big 'uns at that.
Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...The simple solution to your reverse issue in DrumRack is to simply load the sample into two tracks and have one reversed. The rest of it sounds more like audio editor stuff to me. Why would you want to do stuff like that on the fly in Orion?
I imagine changing the direction a very long sample is being read in realtime could present some issues. While you might only want to do it with single slices, you have to remember that Orion is still reading them from the full loop, so it's already doing clever things under the hood. Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...I agree Bones, I was thinking more of the Sampler per say. But DR could be cool as well with shorter samples and a velocity option. One could then reverse a snare or BD or cymbal or everything on a certain beat by graphic velocity control or in note edit as well. Was a cool feature on the SU10. That, and it's 'scratch effect'.
Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...Sounds good, but how about a Shuffle knob on the Sampler as PLEASE!
For me, I can't program a drum line properly without it Reverse would also be high on my wish list as well
Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...
seems that'd be more a function of the piano roll than the sampler.
Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...DR has shuffle

Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...Yeah I want the Shuffle to work the same as DR
Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...Here's the $67 Stupid Question of the day... What the heck is shuffle in the samplers anyways? I always attribute it to a 'swing groove', but don't think that's what you guys are talking about?
Never understood 'Shuffle' in DR. Swing - definately I do in the Piano Roll or with Groove Control.
Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...Hey SW - check this article. Clarity for you at the cost of a minute.
http://www.studybass.com/lessons/rhythm ... g-rhythms/ Shuffle on everything - not just the drum rack. ---=u f o=--- /Radiation Mutant / Snee-Nee-Iq
Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...Thanks UFO. So it is kind of a 'swing groove' still. I'm just so used to placing or shifting notes in the Note Edit. For the times I've made patterns in Sampler and DR and mucked with the Shuffle knob, I couldn't detect any difference?
I was raised on playing crappy Led Zepplin cover songs and 12 bar blues, so I try to stay away from Swing and Shuffles as much as possible now.
Sampler/Drum Machine overhaul nonsense request...I always thought the swing was on the last few notes of the bar using the first notes (rigidly on the beat) as the reference point, while shuffle is applied to the whole bar (or phrase for said instrument) using the on beat rhythm of another instrument(s) for the reference point.
fuck I used a lot of parenthisis in that statement! ---=u f o=--- /Radiation Mutant / Snee-Nee-Iq
