bones what do you think the people think now?
1st. These workarounds aren't more easy (you need to need like 5 tricks to get the same result with using playlist and stuff).
2nd. I see this request constantly on the forum and you constantly explain the workarounds because there probably not that obvious so this will make Orion appear more simple...
if it was so simple this topic would not come up every month.
this is a real issue i really see topic's about this subject very often.

I agree it doesn't seem a frequently needed feature for many of us, but a handy little command to the improved recording support, which Rich has added already. It seems an easy to add improvement, so I'm not against it. Simplicity is relative. For many users and more oldskool musicians recording of (MIDI)tracks is the most simple way to make music, but that leads to long patterns. And Orion will remain very lame for long patterns without some little improvement. I think Rich has realized that, that's why he added expanding patterns to Orion. Regarding simplicity, to hit Ctrl+A is much simpler and faster, than the suggested workaround. I recall "select all" is asked from time to time, and as I've checked in other apps it's a common edit command, and it's commonly Ctrl+A. This also may cause some need for it when not totally noobs try out Orion.
Hows about a "Select All" option in the piano roll ?I agree as well Lance and Bones. Yes, OP is mainly 'pattern based' - but does have the ability for large linear MIDI track recording as well.
Though I do and don't like using Edirol Orchestra (as you have to save 'Performance' set ups and all separately outside of OP's Save option. Along with all else) But OP is certainly capable and accomedating as you say Lance, that's why I like it so. So if it can be integrated, that would be fantastic!

This is great news Rich and Lance, this will further encourage me to upgrade to V8 when it is released, thanks very much!,Bones,i hope were still cool Last edited by megawattt on Mon Oct 26, 2009 8:10 am, edited 1 time in total.
Hows about a "Select All" option in the piano roll ?Bones is always cool. Just send him a case of Fosters and a piece of trent Reznors ear if you want to be his BFF.
Hows about a "Select All" option in the piano roll ?Nobody in Australia drinks Fosters, it's like beer with two sugars and it's from Victoria, where they have no idea how to make decent beer. I think the brand was sold off by the brewer to a wine company, which is why it is so well marketed overseas.
Clearly, people don't think at all most of the time but I would hope the current system at least gives them impetus to switch their brains on.
The Playlist is a separate issue, because there you do need to select stuff to move it around. I can't say I've ever found it to be much of an issue though, and with the new scroll-wheel zoom functionality it will be even less so.
The workaround [there is only one time one is ever required] constitutes a tiny fraction of use-cases, so the balance of not having to use "select all" for 90% of the things you need to do more than balances the one or two extra steps the one and only situation where you need a workaround requires.
If people were capable of leaving their preconceptions at the door, or if they bothered to read teh manual/help, the question would never arise.
The only issue is informing peole that CTRL+A is an unnecessary complication to their workflow and I am more than happy to help people out in this regard. After 10 years, I've seen every topic come up over and over again. Most of them are exactly like this one - expectations based on how other applications handle things, as opposed to real issues. Once you put people on the right path, it ceases to be an issue for a while, until the next newbie comes along. It's the way of the world and I think the best solution would be a better manual, not a diluted workflow to accommodate newbies.
