Hahaha Steven :hihi:

Wanna go grab a beer or a shot or something? :D
We can also grab some popcorn and watch all their jaws drop on the floor when O8 hits the shelves. :hihi:

I wonder if it's too early to post up some example loops yet. Rich?

bones wrote:That's just crap. A 909 was only ever capable of producing a single tone. It's not like a synth, with dynamic variations to the timbre, it just pumps out the same sound every time you trigger it. That makes it exactly the same as a sample for playback.

No, the difference is rather huge if you compare sampled and synthesized side by side.

Especially the 808/909 clap, consisting only of noise, sound completely different on each hit. Try a couple of hits sampled than synthesized, you'll see...

Apart from the dynamic changes over time, sampling the TR-x0x boxes is also difficult due to crosstalk or noise introduced during recording. The crosstalk is random, but it isn't random anymore when being sampled. The ear perceives it as part of the sound (because it's identical on each hit) and that degrades the sound quality of the sample.

So in a nutshell a (good) simulation offers

- More parameters and control of the sound
- Higher sound quality, unlimited SNR
- Dynamic variation

Pretty much like a synth would.

Just to tease a bit more, I've pretty much retired from using d16's Drumazon and replaced it with Rich's new one.

But Rich - do we need a PERFECT emulation of a 909 now? Aside from the constrictive GUI of the XR-909 - it had a unique sound to it. Very close to a 909, but very Synapse as well. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea. But then that's why there's Roland, Yamaha, Korg, et al as well.
Don't recall Yamaha after emulating a few 909 sounds on the RY30 to come out with the RY909 later? (Maybe that's not a bad idea for them either? Piss the hell out of Roland. )

But if Mark's kicked off the Drumazon for yours - that sounds like a good sign to me. ;)

Steve, it's done in a very Synapse way, don't worry. I'll say no more for now ;)

I'm sure it will be - better be for Rich's sake. ;)

And with the EKS-9 out already. I'm surprised there isn't a EKS-10 in the works - pristine 808/909 snare/claps...Or did I say too much already? :shame:

I'd like to do a full 808 emu, but noone of the beta team was in favor of the idea, regardless how great and authentic it would sound. There's also the free TS-808, which is of really good quality and can even beat the D16 emu in some areas.
