I would like to formally request an updated XR-909.
Strongly Desired Features:
- Mute and Solo options on each 'instrument' type (Kick, Snare, Clap, etc) on the GUI as opposed to clicking back to the mixer to mute/solo
- Tune Knobs on the Hats
- Larger Gui (its currently tiny even at a modest 1680x1050)
- Low/Mid/High Toms
Less required but very cool:
- More Robust Pitch Control
- x0x style sequencer with Flam and a Shuffle
Request: Updated XR-909Moderators: Christophe, Mark Request: Updated XR-909The 909 can already be selected for 10x Mono, so that'd be MUTE/SOLO option right there. User Banks allow you to load your own Tom samples (and there must be oodles out there to choose from?)
And with something like this Drumazon on the market, I think Rich might not even bother competing with it now. Check it out if you're a 909 purist. http://www.dancetech.com/item.cfm?threadid=4136
Request: Updated XR-909that wink is serious stuff man.
you seen a control yet that can switch timings on the fly like in redrum? ---=u f o=--- /Radiation Mutant / Snee-Nee-Iq
Request: Updated XR-909
True, why would he
Just initials... P-9 ( and don't bother to google it ) :hihi:
I'm not sure how stuff work in redrum, but looking at that list up there........ That's all I'm gonna say :p SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Request: Updated XR-909I think one is really better off using a mixture of the Drum Rack and Tomcat.
Request: Updated XR-909
You didn't bother to read my post slowly and fully.. because I stated in it, "as opposed to clicking back to the mixer to mute/solo." Theres only two slots so I can't stuff 3 samples in two holes.. besides I have no 909 tom samples. The goal is to make the tools more funtional and quicker to use.. not find a ton of lame and/or expensive work arounds.. I should remind everyone Orion is a Virtual STUDIO. It was designed to be all-in-one with the ability to branch out and use 3rd party if desired. Not as required. My request is to update whats already there instead of having me shell out $213 USD for a 3rd party plugin thats more than the price of the host itself.. again, for a few updates to what I already have (which some in this thread are suggesting - thats ABSURD) Eventually the built-in tools (synths and effects) become irrelevant because they are so limiting and cumbersome vs. what else is out there.. As time passes, technology improves. They need updates. XR-909 falls in this category. If you don't appreciate my request and desire to use Orion as intended that is fine. However, If you want updates to other parts of Orion then put in your requests, don't act like a tool and piss on mine because YOU don't want them. Thank you
Request: Updated XR-909El Capitan, chill, señor
I'm sure Steven had no ill intentions or suggestions, and the least he wanted was to insult you. Like always, he's being helpful in offering useful tips. Now, as for your request, pretty much all from your list, except for mute/solo on the instrument itself, will be covered in the next release (althought can't say they'll happen on XR-909), but the bottom line is you'll get to do things with features from your list. Satisfying answer? Last edited by HYPNAGOGIA on Fri Dec 04, 2009 4:53 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Request: Updated XR-909For sure El Capitan, just pointing out the options do exist - maybe not the way YOU like 'em. But for a low priced music suite that OP is, it's not a bad inclusion. If you want something more serious, lots of options to choose from out there - free to expensive.
It's alright to buy a cheap Sears guitar and expect to play like Eddie Van Halen on it. Maybe you're talented enough to pull some great riff's on it. But when you realise the guitars short comings and the wealth of your talent - would you send a letter to Sears complaining about your inferior guitar, or go to a music store to look for something better and more stylish? Sure, Sears may improve the quality of their line over time - and you may get good at modifying and compensating in your own way as well. But to hold Sears accountable for the lack of your success because they don't take YOU and other prodigy's seriously...? Come on.
Request: Updated XR-909
Okay... Why are you getting off on a tangent about buying a Sears guitar and lacking musical success? uhmm.. huh? Thank you for pointing out the options. However I already knew of those options. Yet those options don't resolve the issue and thus why I'm posting a request for this to be looked into. I'm asking (request) for more features to put the XR-909 more in line with an actual 909... perhaps even exceed it. Either it happens or it doesn't. I'm ok either way. However, a 'better' one would greatly be appreciated and used by me. Who knows maybe even you (and others) would use more it if it was fleshed out a little more. Perhaps you have come to accept the limitations of your Host and just expect them now instead of asking for improvements? However, asking doesn't hurt does it? Thats all I'm doing. And its hugely frustrating to get back a bunch of 'no' or 'use a workaround' by people don't seem to really use it anyways or have become comfortable with the workaround. Reminds me of a scene on the Muppets with Statler and Waldorf (the old guys in the balcony) that disagree with every topic that comes there way unless it benefits them. I hope you can see from where I am coming.
Request: Updated XR-909Yes, but with something like the 909 - it's as old as dirt musically. The electronic version of a Gibson Les Paul to rock or jazz. Some profess with all the knock offs over the years none come close. Some say some are actually better. And some go to the extent of using a Fender Strat and 25 pedals to sound linda like a Gibson. I'm more than happy with OP 'as is' and think the 909 is pretty solid to be thrown in. Maybe not as good as some, but a lot better than others.
And I think most are happy with that fact. Hardcore purists that demand the exact sound and options can spend $100 to $2000 for a decent soft or hardware version. Others (like myelf on ocassion) can pitch the 909's HH through a insert like TobyBears Mad Shifta VST. If there's a song demand for 909 Toms, use the DR preset, or configure the DR to just how you want it. There are absolutely TONS of options in and outside OP already to get the 909 YOU want. For Rich to take a hacksaw to the XR-909 would be like someone trying to reshape a decent knock off of a Les Paul. So many here have and are using the 909 and seem fairly satisfied. I'd be concerned changes and enhancements would disrupt or kill old songs for some? Then okay, make a XR-909II for OP - then start from the top and work your way down this thread again.
Request: Updated XR-909But see.. you just made my point.. again. you are thread crapping - this is true because you are happy with Orion as it is.. and then are suggesting more work arounds (which don't even work).
I want to throw my hands in the air and say 'forget it' because I really don't know what to say at this point; I'm not even sure why I'm arguing with YOU about this.. you have NO say in development. But am curious why YOU would fight this request so hard? Besides it wouldn't require a hacksaw.. that is ridiculous.. the 'wheel' has already been created.. XR-909 exists already. Some of the features I mentioned (or maybe even others I havent) could smooth it out and make it a jewel. It wouldn't break anything.. tell me a feature I suggested (outside of Toms, which *might* cause issue based on note mapping. However that could potentially be ironed out by mapping them to higher, unused notes) that would 'break' old songs.. Old songs simply wouldn't know about the new parameters. That doesn't break things. I'm not asking for algorithm changes (it already sounds good).. and thats the only serious way these requests could break old songs. Why do you fight change so much? I'm asking for more features... this would make the tool more powerful.. more useful.. don't you want more useful tools? At the very least why are so adamantly opposed to these changes? Or are you simply trolling and I failed to pick up on it? Because I'm serious.. I hope you are too.
Request: Updated XR-909read the Hypna post and you will have a clue that most of your request may be in an update...ignore the rest of the thread and you can smile
Request: Updated XR-909Great advice machinist!
Things are improved in this department too! One more thing which makes me look forward to O8.
Request: Updated XR-909I'm not fighting change at all. I'm pointing out the fact that you've got DrumRack, XR-909, Tomcat, and countless 909 VST's already out there to choose from. All of which can used used together creatively in OP for either a true to form 909, or more prefereably something more unique. Yet YOU don't want to change, explore, try the options inside and out. Just fix up the same old so you can do the same old,
I'm not 'thread crapping', just trying to show that there's A LOT more possibilities before, during and after a updated XR-909. I'm surprised Rich is even doing it. Then again, Sears is getting in a new line of guitars and Casio's as well for Christmas. Maybe Rich will slay the producers and purists with the utmost 909 there could over be. But I think if you tried the 909 in DR, or make your own kit - it's still going to outway the GUI and added options on any improved XR-909. And D16 may have updated their Drumazon and slashed the prices in half by then as well. Maybe someone at KVR will make something even better for free - again. But as long as Rich keeps you happy and you can live with it for another 7 years, okay. Wish away. 136,000 hits on Google by just typing TR909+VST, and I gotta get your thankless response and accusations for trying to steer you to things above and beyond your desires. So focus and wait on the update, and be damn well happy with it then.
