So, I love Orion dearly as a sequencer. But what I'd love now is for it to be more useful in a performance context.
I've been playing a bit with a trial of Ableton Live recently and, frankly, I don't much get on with it - I'm too used to the Orion way of doing things (plus, Live is far too expensive compared to Orion). However, what I really like in Ableton is the ability to tie pretty much any UI element to any MIDI event or keypress - so you can switch between currently playing patterns by tapping single keys on a keyboard or on a pad controller or something, along with all the usual binding of synth controls to CCs for morphing and that.
I know it's possible to tie things like faders and buttons and knobs in Orion to MIDI CCs/events; but I think it would be really fun if I could tie other UI elements - pattern select, in particular - to events, to make live performance using Orion more of practical reality.
(incidentally, am I missing something, or is it not possible to map the transport controls to MIDI events at the moment? That seems like a bit of an oversight, too...)

Live performance features? That stuff is for DJs and of little or no relevance to live musicians, who normally like to rehearse their arrangements before getting up in front of people and making idiots of themselves.
That said, Orion does have live sets that allow you to switch patterns on the fly from your PC keyboard. Realistically, I see no reason for anyone to be ashamed of using their PC on stage and I have no problem including a wireless keyboard on my keyboard stand on stage. In fact, I am proud to be a PC user and I like people to see where all the sound is coming from. Dell G7 (Hexa-Core i7)|Cubase Pro 10||Analog Keys|Ultranova|MicroMonsta|Uno|Skulpt|Craft Synth 2.0|

Live performance features?
Coming in the next version (I hope).
Live performance features?I think you're maybe being a little dismissive of musicians who like to mess around with their arrangements on stage, and a rigid backing track doesn't make that terrible easy.
The live sets stuff is useful, but it's another prime candidate for something that could be MIDI triggered - if I'm playing guitar, I can use a MIDI foot controller to switch between sets, but taking my hand from the guitar when I want to switch from verse to bridge to chorus to middle 8 isn't really an option...
Live performance features?I agree with you cawhitworth. It's an issue periodically discussed around here and all positions seems to be fixed. bones won't understand that we (you and me, in example) would like to change an arrangement on a stage.
The thing is that Richard (the developer) doesn't seem to have this topic among his priorities, so we're stuck here, with a live set mode half implemented. If you played with live you'll know that it's not only about assigning midi events to live sets or pattern change, but when the pattern changes after you hit the midi trigger, being able to record those changes to a new arrangement, and so on.
Live performance features?Yeah. Having done a bit of a search on the forums, I turned up Bome's MIDI Translator, which seems like it'll probably do as a halfway house, but it's not ideal.
I'm just a bit disappointed that there seems to be no real competition for Ableton, as having played around with the trial, I just don't seem to click with it (plus, it's expensive, and the restrictions in the 'Intro' version are just unworkable - 4 VSTis? Yeah, right; I can use that just on the drums...)
Live performance features?Just make your sets longer if 9 isnt enough. You can do this by combineing loops via the z key. My process is this I make a song useing the live sets to figure out an arrangment. Then I get an arrangment set and combine them useing the z key I then reassign my live sets accordingly. No matter how you look at it your going to have to spend time before hand figureing out an arrangment. The other work around is to do what I just mentioned but have two computers on stage. That way you can keep the music going. Otherwise your going to have to do a great deal of programing, streaming to wav, ect before hand.

Live performance features?Welcome aboard cawhitworth! :hut: And I'm right with you on Ableton.
I hate going live, but yet don't want to go on stage with OP and hit a space bar and just stand there. So I tried Ableton too a few years back, and just didn't get how bands get away with it on stage? Took it back tout-sweet, and been sucking up to Bones ever since. So I think it's how you approach OP, and can serve double duty I think quite nicely. Bones uses it as his production studio AND puts on a pretty good live show with it. Not sure if he uses the 'Live Sets' or not? I just have the trouble of getting my head out of the 'production side', taking out synths and effects and Save As 'Opening Song'. I'm envious of Bone's fearlessness on stage with OP. And he certainly doesn't complain about it ruining his shows ever. So I'm just going to stick to OP as well, and hire some dancers or something.
