As I already mentioned, implementing a Paste to Cursor Position feature would address this issue as well as making other things more straightforward, so it's one bit of work that has benefits across a range of areas. Another would be to use the Loop as a range for applying the LFO tool to song events. Then there are dozens of fixes that I have been asking for in the skinning system for up to 10 years that have never been done, and that is just fixing things that should work but don't. i.e. bug fixes.
Regardless of if they were implemented or not. New and redesigned fx and synths are fine, but they may not be something everyone will use all the time, as opposed to working with the program itself.
Sure and I will definitely fall into that category. In fact, I cannot see myself using any of the new instruments at all, but that is mostly because of the way they have been implemented, not because they aren't great sounding instruments.
Hey, I'm guilty of coming across a larger stumbling block (like the automation issue) and avoided it to work on something less important but is easier to solve along with more instant fun results, but the stumbling block is still there and more important and fundamental than small side-projects that not everyone may benefit from.
How will "everyone" benefit from a split pattern feature that I have already pointed out will not work in every situation? We've all been splitting patterns for years, so it is really just a different way of doing something we can already do easily enough.
You drag the track to the bottom. When you're done, you move it back. That's a workaround of course, since one would logically think you can just select in line with whatever track, which you can't do either.
So you agree it's a half-arsed feature that any new user would laugh at. You may as well just use the PR like we have always done, so why bother with it?
It doesn't sound flawed, it sounds more like exaggerated worry.
You just admitted that it would often require a workaround. To me that is the definition of flawed.
How much massive amount of work has gone into things that may not be used as much as opposed to core improvements?
I can guarantee you I would use a Split Pattern feature less often that I am likely to use Pro-9. I can probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I have split a pattern in all the time I've been using Orion. So to me it is just as much a useless feature as a generator I will never use.
It would also be trivial to split a pattern in the playlist; more trivial to do it that way when you have a long pattern with different parts inside it instead of having to make them piece by piece.
Strangely enough, I tend to be organised so things like that rarely come up. Sure, it does when I load a whoel MIDI song to do a cover or something, but I'd still prefer to split it in the PR than the Playlist, so my vote goes for "Paste to Cursor Position" over "Split Pattern".
It's less efficient to select, cut or copy and then paste into a new pattern as opposed to just selecting the section and dragging it.
Not always. Most of the time you will need to do at least some zooming and panning in the Playlist and you may need to turn off/on snap to grid, just to make sure you select exactly the right part, then you'll need to zoom/pan again so that you can see where you are going to drag to. It's very messy compared to doing it precisely and simply in the PR, where you can very accurately ensure you get exactly the notes you need. Even without paste to cursor, I would almost always use the PR over any split feature in the Playlist, simply because I cannot see the notes well enough to be confident of getting the right bits from the Playlist. This would be particularly true of any recorded part where your timing may not be 100%.
That's 2 clicks without having to open up the piano roll.
But you'd have to open the Playlist, so what's the difference? Opening the PR is much easier than getting the Playlist big enough to accurately select a group of notes.
You simply cannot assume that because you would find something useful that everyone else will, too. My Playlist is normally far too small on screen for this kind of solution to be in any way useful. OTOH, a simple addition to existing copy/paste functionality would be useful for both of us, so to me that makes it a better option.
