to use drag and drop you would be not be using Orion full screen, what the point in that?

I´ve got your point, but if you use multiple desktops then fullscreen become useless.

why? if your are going to the extreme of using 2 moniotrs, you would surely be dragging Orion across botrh screens/

Just an example:In Reaper you can open and close media Item explorer with Ctrl+alt+x so you can hide it when not in use,so you have your full screen back

which is pretty much the same as using any browser

Totaly cant see the point of this. The Windows basic browser is great and too much faster to browse than other Daws.

But it does not come with a preview function. For drum sample search using the drum rack, it is very handy to go through the list of samples with the cursor keys (up/down) and getting an immediate feedback of the sample sound. This especially helps a lot finding the right hihat etc.

Unless I'm misunderstanding, what you mean, you can preview from the drum rack. I often program a beat, decide that one of the samples i loaded originally isn't great, then browse to different folders to try a new sample - they play in the pattern as it runs so you can hear how they sound. A fantastic and very useful preview!

hang on - i see now, DaZoid is saying that the windows browser doesn't have preview. Must read whole post before replying!

Often when I work - and others will do to - I'll be going through samples using Windows Explorer
Particularly since many have to be edited externally because Orion's sampler doesnt have any way of not recreating the whole sample in the piano roll for example

So, I'll have Orion using 90% of the screen and windows explorer using 90% of the screen, flipping between each until samples are loaded, then going full screen with Orion

My samples are all over the shop, so drag and drop would be a real help

try organising them better then. You cant expect Orion to do all the work for you just cos youre too lazy to organise your own stuff

Well organized samples it's only a part of the problem,just to say I'v got 2 Hardisk 1TB each full of samples,one it's only for drum/percussions and one it's only for melodic/instruments stuff.
I metcicoulys organized my samles with folders/subfolders/genre/root notes etc,but when you have thousands of them belive me,a media item explorer it's really useful.
Anyway I love Orion eaven without it

Keep in mind it's about 10 years of sample collection,I know most of them are never used,but maybe a tomorrow

Let me explain an example to you:

I'll work with samples in several different folders.
With Orion at present, I'd have to keep going back and forth from each, trying to remember where they are
With drag and drop, one can leave say 4 windows explorer windows open and keep using samples from them.

I'm sure I could accuse you of being 'lazy' for any wishlist items you've raised!

Many here WANT to have drag and drop. If you're too narrow-minded to understand that other people might work in different ways, or simply not want to spend half their lives sorting out sample folders, then just ignore it. Or others may have/use more samples than you do.
Given how many applicationd DO support drag and drop, it may not be too difficult to implement, so what's your problem?

as you said yourself, you cant be arsed to sort out your sampel collection, so your lazyness is the problem, and you expect someone else to compensate for it. You need to grow up and take responsibility for your own stuff and not expect everything to be spoon fed to you.

I have lots of folders with samples, all of them labelled correctly and organised, so i never have a problem finding anything.

I think at the end of the day it's more a personal workflow taste,I agree with Krim,if you sort all your samples (and everithing else for a good search result) you may not need a media explorer,but on the other hand,when you are accustomed with integrated media item explorer (like Onesmall clue Poise just for an example) it's difficult turn back to Windows expolorer

yes andy, im not against it as such, but his posts make it clear his is very lazy and un-organised, so he prob needs to sort that part out first
