I hope this is not a double post, I didn't find any thread about it...
Using a VSTi with multi-out and the possibility to have different instruments in one plugin (like Kontakt/Reaktor/Omnisphere) is actually quite good to save memory CPU-resources.
Unfortunately the handling of patterns in Orion does not fit this requirement. It is (as far as I know) not possible to create separate patterns for each MIDI-channel and to arrange them in the play-list. Instead for each combination of patterns, a new pattern has to be created. (E.g. Channel one has 3 different patterns, channel two has 4 and channel three has 8, all in all this are already 3*4*8=96 to cover all combinations of the patterns)
For external MIDI-devices, this is no problem, because I can just open a new instance of MIDI-out for each channel, they are quite undemanding.
The easiest way (in my opinion) would be to enable MIDI-devices for VSTi as well, adding them as new sources, like it is done in other DAWs.
Any hints on how to do that, or at least how to work around this problem, if already possible, are appreciated.

Re: MIDI channels / Multitimbral VSTi / Pattern selectionYou can do it the other way. I'll try to give you an example, you see how it could fit within your workflow.
Say you have an 8 channel instrument, which technically gives you 8 instruments in one. With that, you can divide patterns among those 8 instruments/channels... Bank A for Instrument 1, B for 2, C for 3, D bank for 4, and so on. So, now you have 8 patterns per instrument. Of course, you still need to put notes into appropriate MIDI channel in the sequencer. Now, here's the trick. To avoid having to put same patterns for every channel that requires it (like pattern 1 has channels 1,2 and 4, pattern 2 has 1, 5 and 8, pattern 3 has 4, 5 and 8... etc) which practically wastes patterns doubling them, you can right-click on the track in the Playlist > Expand to > 8 Tracks. That gives you 8 individual channels with 8 patterns each (I'm not sure you'd need 8 patterns per instrument, but if you do, merge some together where you can), where you can put any pattern you want, allowing you to mix and match patterns as you like. I didn't know this feature. A lot of thanks to you! This will do.
