Valve have recently announced that they're looking into opening up their gaming distribution service to non-game PC software.
For those who aren't familiar with Steam, it is a (somewhat controversial) software delivery system designed for flogging games: you can start Steam and buy/download games with it. Your software is tied to your Steam account/login, so you can install on as many PCs as you like, and in that respect it works pretty well as DRM. You don't need to be online to use your Steam software, it will work offline, but occasionally it will want to phone home.
Whereas I personally have my reservations about the system (the EULA describes it as a 'subscription' service, and there's no knowing what happens if Valve go bust) it is pretty handy for keeping things updated, beta testing and suchlike. I've got a bunch of games on it myself.
I thought I'd mention it because I'd not heard anything about anyone else planning on putting their music software on Steam, and figured that getting on to Steam early may open the market a bit for Synapse to a whole new group of users. It wouldn't affect anyone who had an existing installation of Orion, and Synapse would have the option of selling direct in the way they've always done, as well as through Steam.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Steam does tend to polarise opinion a bit in the gaming community, and it's a bit of a moot point seeing as most of us will already have Orion, I was just wondering what you guys thought?
