A synths is a synths, you can get any sound you want from it. You don't need a Virus, you just need a good synths, although even a half-decent freeware synth will be able to make 99% of the same sounds as a Virus or any other synth. There will always be one or two things a specific synth architecture will do better than others but for everything else, any synth should do.

But there are big differences in how to achieve a certain sound. Example: Yo can create the same (complex!) sound using
1. one instance of Dune with multiple layers and effects activated. 2. using multiple instances of Wasp (connected via "Receive MIDI from), routing them to a bus and adding effects there.
Maybe "fun" was the wrong word. But many sounds can be achieved much faster and more intuitive with a certain synth than with others.
For example I just did the following with Dune:
-Select saw for OSC1, -select saw for OSC2, -decrease FAT value, -set the voices to 8, -detuning the voices with one knob and -activating default reverb and chorus.
This took me one minute and the result was a hooveresque, mighty hardcore lead/bass. Nothing special but it pleased my ears. Doing the same with Wasp would mean to use 8 instances of Wasps, detuning them manually, routing the MIDI from one instance to the others, routing the audio to one bus and insert two effects. Time effort about 20 minutes. And guess what you have to do if you want to change the saw wave for a square wave. Right, you have to change the setting 8 times. In addition your mixer is pretty much bloated. In my opinion a huge difference.
Of course it is always depending on your personal demands. If somebody want to recreate rather "simple" sounds from an era long time ago, a simple substractive synth will do everything you want.

If you're asking, I'd definitely say the second as it allows you to build complexity as required and will ultimately give you a lot more flexibility.

Wasp can not load Waveforms and so it's far less flexible than DUNE.......Dune can make sounds that Wasp simply can not......DUNE 2 even more so...........
It's not the end of the world. If it's any consolation, I think it will be out very soon - maybe within a month or two - depends. It's hard to tell when Rich and Marcin feel it's ready.
