Re: MIDI controller stepping with Dune2 ?If I set the RME driver to 2048 samples, I definitely notice the stepping. Not anymore at 512 samples and below (I work at 128 samples).
Re: MIDI controller stepping with Dune2 ?I've noticed, changing the buffer size doesn't seem to change much at all in terms of latency and stepping when I choose the "generic low lantency ASIO" driver.
I have three choices for drivers: ASIO DirectX Full Duplex Driver, Generic Low Latency ASIO, and M-Audio Delta ASIO (which is the driver that came with the sound card). They all respond differently to buffer size - for example, 2048 with the M-Audio Delta driver is unplayably laggy, but with the Generic Low Latency ASIO all the settings sound pretty much the same (I'm guessing it's a fixed latency). I've been using settings that worked well for a few years and I thought I understood it, but apprently not. The fact that different synths respond differently really threw me - for example, DIVA never seems to step even with crazy big buffers. And the M-Audio driver which I'd assume would be the best, seems the most laggy, though it may have the best sound quality (just guessing here, I can't actually hear much of a difference if any, lol). For now I'm going to go with 512 and the driver that came with the soundcard. Seems sensible. I really need to read up on this stuff more.
Re: MIDI controller stepping with Dune2 ?
you should reduce your latency as much as possible, the limit is what your cpu can handle 1024 and 2048 are a no go, they are even not on the chart in the different articles ! http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/oct06/a ... n_1006.htm http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jun07/a ... y_0607.htm http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec07/a ... h_1207.htm http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may08/a ... s_0508.htm http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/aug11/a ... s-0811.htm 512 as a first try is a good idea but 256 should be better Yamaha CS-30, Roland SH-1, Roland MKS70, Focusrite Scarlett 18i6, Yamaha FS1R, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Novation Remote 37SL, Korg Legacy, Alesis M1Active 520, Novation Launchpad Pro, Push2, Intel i7-7700HQ
Re: MIDI controller stepping with Dune2 ?It depends what ur doing Christophe,
if you are just sequencing, ie. not playing a controller- 1024 or 2048 are fine, and will give you more ability to make a heavy project. These sorta latencies are capable of delivering no underruns compared to low ones. I agree that 256 is a good balance to use if you are playing, although it depends of course on your hardware. That's a pity your setup doesn't work that quick Sendy. I suggest the only thing to do is change computer or soundcard- otherwise what can she try people? Have you got the latest drivers for the Delta?
Re: MIDI controller stepping with Dune2 ?One of the reasons I chose Windows 7 over 8 when building my new studio computer was there are no Delta Drivers for Win 8.....I just checked and it looks like there are still none. I read where some people are having problems with the "latest" Delta Drivers and Win 8. Not sure that's the OS Sendy is using but there really aren't any "latest" Delta Drivers.......
